Jackets - Dumba

Created by: BoomerTheHero
Team: 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 21, 2022
Published: Aug. 21, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not sure what would need to be added or where the respective value really sits, but I was thinking that a Dumba - Nyquist swap could help both teams as at least rentals. Maybe they could be extended.

Would result in some other move to shed a defenseman, but really just trying to determine value on the trade.

Minnesota declines. Dumba might ss well. Dumba has more value. Nyquist, no disrespect but in thus covid world even Columbus couldn't trade his cap

Columbus shouldn’t be trading draft picks for a rental unless they are clearly in a playoff spot. Also don’t see why Minnesota would make this trade.

I know what you are saying, but I guess I was thinking that we can just shift our expiring contract to a position that could help us make the playoffs. If we are out of it at TDL, we can always trade him.

But yeah doubt MIN would be interested, but just figured a 50 pt middle 6 winger could help them and they might even extend him to help with depth in their lineup. Although I admittedly don’t really know their “needs”

I get where you were going with it, but with the organizational depth Columbus currently has, I feel like it would benefit Columbus to keep nyquist and let Johnson, Marchenko and Chinakov play top line minutes in the AHL vs bottom 6 minutes in the NHL. As for the d core we need to see what Peeke, Blankenburg, Bean and Boqvist really are and who is truly an NHL player before top prospect like Jiricek and Cuelamens arrive. I see the appeal in pushing for the playoffs, but I can also see Columbus taking a shot at Bedard and giving their top prospects time and not rushing them.

Yeah I don’t necessarily disagree, but everything Jarmo has said shows he expects to compete for the playoffs. On top of that our defense was complete dog**** last year and it needs improvement, if for nothing else just so we can gauge our goalie situation with a competent defense. I feel like a 1 or 2 yr player in our top 4 could help bridge the gap.

How much better is dumba than peeke especially at their cap hits? Not Nyquist and these picks. Jackets are much better off trading Nyquist half retained at the deadline for picks than getting dumba

do you think Texier for Dumba could work? I remember there being rumours that he could be on the move last year. I would do that straight up.

No, the salary doesn’t work. That’s why a Nyquist+ for Dumba swap could work, cause the salary is close enough. We also wouldn’t trade Tex for a rental.
