How much would it cost

Description
How much would it cost to dump Mike Reilly? If we compare with Murray, the Sens paid a 3rd round pick to get rid of 4,6 millions. Assuming Reilly has 2 years left at 3 millions each, Boston would dump a total of 6 millions. My guess is a 2nd round pick or a 3rd round pick plus a player. Let me know what do you think it would cost and where could he go.

There are teams that could use him. At some point maybe Seattle and right now Anaheim. He is a decent player, not dead cap. He hasn’t been traded yet, so there’s just a chance he stays because Sweeney probably doesn’t want to pay to dump him. Trust me I don’t want 3 million as a healthy scratch either but if he stays he stays, just extra defensive depth.

I agree, but having 3 million dollars sitting in the stands every night is tough. Also, Sweeney would be better paying to dump Reilly than trade out a forward like Smith for example. We have much more depth on defense than on attack. We already have Zboril, Clifton (both on NHL deals), Ahcan and Carrick. Sweeney pays for the bad contract he gave

Trade him to someone who is interested for defenseman making 750k to act as a depth piece. Or a mid to late pick. Then sign a vet for league minimum. Either way.

We don't need anymore depth on the blue line and I doubt you get something valuable in return for Reilly at most a late pick but probably future considerations imo.

With Mac and Grizz out til Xmas and Thanksgiving respectively. They do need more depth on D if they trade Reilly. That’s the reason he has not been traded already. It would leave them with 5 healthy D man to start the year. One of them recovering from last years injury in Zboril.

None of these guys are players who can regularly play on the second pair which leaves the Bruins with just four top4 Ds when fully healthy and two right now if you dump Reilly (which would also be terrible asset management because he should be getting a positive return, not nothing or having to pay to get rid of). If you're going to dump someone, do it by getting rid of a player that's actually overpaid like Foligno or Forbort.

Reilly is not a cap dump, he's actually going to be very useful for the bruins with both Gryz & McAvoy out

Short answer. It costs you nothing to “dump” Reilly. He play top pair D and was above OK there. Better suited to a 2nd pairing and that isn’t something to have to add prospects and picks to “dump”.

Horrible take, and I never say that.
