No Karlsson

Created by: Rob32sjsharks
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 31, 2022
Published: Aug. 31, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trying to keep this as realistic as possible.
Looking at this the Karlsson deal will go down in history as the worst deal Wilson ever made.
Trades
1.
2.
SJS
  1. Mercer, Dawson
Additional Details:
sharks would have drafted around 16-18 instead of 3rd and Mercer would have fit a need if he was available.
3.
SJS
  1. Dillon, Brenden
Additional Details:
with no Karlsson sharks never deal Dillon. he was moved for cap savings.
WPG
  1. Robins, Tristen
Additional Details:
Robins is the only piece we have left from this deal.
4.
SJS
  1. Pavelski, Joe
Additional Details:
no Karlsson, Pavelski never leaves and is still Captain.
DAL
5.
SJS
  1. Leonard, John
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
no Karlsson, this trade likely never happens.
6.
7.
8.
SJS
would have been dealt in 22 for cap room.
    ARI
    1. Simek, Radim
    2. 2023 3rd round pick (SJS)
    9.
    10.
    SJS
    1. Lysell, Fabian
    Additional Details:
20/21 pick would have been reasonable for the sharks here.

You likely do not have Eklund if this is your team.

that's what I said in the description. I should just go ahead and change that to make it more reasonable.

Curious why you think they would have been drafting in the 16-18 range? Surely they would have been pretty much as bad without the trade in 19-20, as Norris wasn't even an NHLer at that point.

But yeah, might be one of the worst aged trades of all time.

Karlsson's injury and the lack of depth contributed to that fall. we were missing a lot of players who would have otherwise been here.
could argue higher like 14-17th but that's a hypothetical debate with no real answer. I was just trying to be as realistic as possible.
obviously another thing that could be argued is with a better team Kane maybe doesn't self implode as much and is still on the team

all good. these hypothetical trade reversals open up a bunch of butterfly effects and it's hard to reasonably account for everything that might have changed

COVID had more of an impact to the salary cap than people remember.

Also, on paper the trade made sense. The results up through today have to be more towards the worst case scenario end of the spectrum. Who would of thought he'd play less than 60 games in the four years he's been here. Insanity.

at the time of the trade I LOVED it. the two best offensive D men in the League at the time were sharks! but the results were devastating.

Don’t forget Dylan DeMelo was a part of the EK65 trade. He probably would play with Ferraro which would keep Vlasic and Braun together.

Also Tierney is probably still on the team and would be your 4C

i thought about adding both but Tierney doesn’t really have a fit so i see him leaving as a FA, and Demello was never thought of highly here i see him being dealt or never resigning. wilson never liked him i did.

Looking back, it's insane. Also, the Kane signing pushed Pavelski out. Now look where we are.

The last few years for the Sharks have really odd. Injuries, the five or six different incidents for Kane, the management change, and more. They're better this year, but this team is two highly skilled young guys away from being a contender.
