The Poille Method and Garth's Strength

Created by: IslesHockey
Team: 2017-18 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2017
Published: May 23, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Defense Wins Championships and Garth is good at one thing, dealing with teams that are cap strapped, or in this case, expansion strapped.

Keep Greiss and Halak until Sorokin gets here for the 2018-2019 Season.

Not 100% sure on Fowlers value, and I know Anaheim has to deal one defenseman so I threw this together, not sure if it's too little or too much.

Isles need a 2 way center, addition of Fowler hurts their chances at a Duchene trade so they look to the free agency and nab Hanzal

Isles go full out on defense protection and come up with this come expansion time
8F/D - 1G
Tavares, Ladd, Lee, Leddy, Fowler, Hamonic, De Haan, Pulock, Greiss

Ask Boychuk to waive his NMC because there is almost 0 shot at his age and contract Vegas takes him. Would love for the Isles to ask for Ladd to waive his as well to protect Strome. Same deal as Boychuk, can't see Vegas taking Ladd at his term and age.

He's a LHD who has never surpassed 40 points in the league on the last year of his contract, no way he gets that kind of return, especially with every team fully knowing anaheim cant keep all their d

With only one year left, they can extend him this summer, I think when the SCF is over. I like the value above, perhaps make the pick conditional or just a handshake extension beforehand. And then replace DET with COL.

yeah but you can protect 4. Fowler, Vatanen, Manson, Lindholm... do some research before thinking you know everything.

If they aren't getting a return like that then they are going to keep him. Sometimes points aren't the only thing that matter when evaluating defensemen. Also, he does have a 40 point season in his career so you might want to double check that. Averages .5 points per game over his career which is actually pretty solid numbers. He basically has similar seasons to Seabrook and you can extend him on July 1st this year if your heart desires and don't forget the fact that he's 26. If he's so worthless what's the point of trading for him? lol.

Which is why I said he never surpassed 40 points, surpassed, more points than 40, surpassed. And for a defenseman like Fowler, who's offensive minded points are a factor in how he gets evaluated, HERO charts are down so I can't see his defensive analytics. Never said he was worthless, just said his value takes a hit due to the fact Anaheim cant protect all of its defense. He's also a LHD which hurts his value compared to if he were a RHD. Its not like I offered of a 3rd rounder for him. Just the same as Kovy, NJD is basically forced to trade him because if they dont he can just sign elsewhere the following year and the Devils miss out on any kind of return.
