So what you’re saying is that Fischer and 2 7th round picks are worth Muzzin, a 3rd and a 4th. I don’t think so IMO

Chicago screams "no trade backs" and cut all communication with the Leafs after.

Why do the Leafs trade Sandin for thaT?

Why would the leafs not sign Sandin for less than dehaan now that Muzzin isn't blocking him?

    I do.

Muzzin has value to the Leafs under two circumstances:
    (1) When not injured, he is clearly an acceptable #2LhD, and almost certainly superior to the alternatives.
    (2) If traded, he clears up $5.625 million, or some portion thereof, in cap space for two years.

In contrast, he has almost no value to any other team as a #2LhD: contending teams don't need one and/or don't have the cap space to absorb his hit (right now, none of last season's 17 other playoff contenders (including near-misses Las Vegas and Islanders) have the necessary cap room), and to non-contenders, adding him doesn't accomplish anything significant (what difference is it to Arizona to finish with 30 wins instead of 25?). So his trade value based upon playing strength is low. As to the second scenario, no team is going to take Muzzin's cap hit off Toronto's hands without an incentive. I'm sure that it won't cost the first-round draft pick Sean Monahan cost Calgary to move one year of a $6.374 million cap hit, but he won't be the free transfer one year of Dimitriy Kulikov's $2.25 million cap hit was, either.

Put yourself in Bill Armstrong's chair in his office under the temporary grandstands in the ASU field house: why exactly would you want Jake Muzzin on your team?
