I could probably get on board with this, but what's in it for DET in the ANA deal? We take on another aging D-man and another hasn't-quite-made-it 25 year old (see: Russo, Sproul) and give up a 3rd to help ANA protect one of their good d-men?? Swap Manson for Theodore or Montour and maybe we're getting somewhere.

I agree with you. If we take a bad contact, I hope for something a little better then Manson. Even if we have to sweeten the pot on our end to get Montour or Theodore I would do it.

In my experience, people seem to be pretty spit on Manson. Many in the analytics community really like him (he controls shots and scoring chances really well) but I think dtd_tank is right about there still being doubt as to what his ceiling truly is. Is he a second pairing guy or is he top pairing guy? He hasn't been given the opportunity to prove himself in ANA yet so the jury is still out if you ask me.

Regardless, I think he steps in and improves our defense immediately. I'd be fine with putting up with one year of Bieksa in order to get him in a winged wheel. Renouf and a 3rd isn't much to pay at all so I'd be surprised if ANA didn't want more. It's going to be really interesting to see what ANA does to get ready for the expansion draft...

Ya I'm so ready for the offseason to start because it will be way different then others because of the expansion draft. I wanna see who is protect, who is exposed and who gets traded. Going to be a very interesting offseason and hope the Red Wings get rid of some contacts and get younger.
