If EDM really wants Soucy

Created by: KrakenTheCode

Description
Of all the Kraken trade proposals I've seen mentioned, by far the most common player involved is Carson Soucy. I understand why. He's a defensively sound defenseman who makes his team better whenever he's on the ice and has a reasonable cap hit.

I don't see much reason for the Kraken to trade Soucy right now; he was one of the few players with a positive plus/minus for the team last season and they're looking to improve, so he'll be a key contributor. They also have three left handed defensemen and three right handed defensemen with him in the fold, so there's no imbalance to solve. However, if Seattle is selling at the deadline again and they can't extend Soucy, they'll likely trade him. Given the amount of trade calls they fielded on him last year, it's a good bet there will be interest.

With that in mind, if a team wants Soucy now, they'll likely have to overpay, given that Seattle will likely be able to get a very good return for him at the deadline. I understand the trade below is an overpay, but if the Oilers are looking to swap Barrie for Soucy, that is what it might take given their need to become cap compliant before the season and the lack of pressure on the Kraken's end to trade Soucy.
Trades
SEA
  1. Barrie, Tyson
  2. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Pick is top-10 protected; if Edmonton's 2023 1st round pick falls within the top 10, Seattle will instead receive the Oilers' 2024 1st round pick.
EDM
  1. Soucy, Carson ($1,375,000 retained)
Additional Details:
SEA gives EDM permission to discuss an extension with Soucy prior to the trade.

Personally if it meant we turn that 1st into the 32OA pick, I wouldn't mind

I don't think turning Barry not Soucy= cup. But this looks close to fair value.

A second rounder maybe but zero chance Edmonton’s giving up a first and a roster player for a pending UFA and not a fan of Soucy playing his offside
