Finalizing the 2022 roster

Created by: jonh514
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 12, 2022
Published: Sep. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Barrie, Tyson
Additional Details:
Barrie is a bit one dimension and expensive, but he's better than nothing
EDM
  1. Hoffman, Mike
  2. Struble, Jayden [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
Hoffman is a bit one dimensional and expensive but he's better than nothing
Habs will never sign Struble IMO as they have like 3 unsigned D prospects they like better than him, but he's an NHL talent and the LHD pipeline in EDM is not as deep as MTL
2.
NYR
  1. Mysak, Jan
  2. 2023 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Saw this trade earlier. I think it's fair.

Once again one for one on Lundkvist IMO

The Oilers likely decline because they can't move out Barrie and not get a RD back, I also don't know if they need another winger but if they did Drouin might be more to their liking since he is younger and on an expiring contract who can be resigned for cheaper if he performs well.

The money and term is equivalent with Hoffman. Both players struggle to play defence. I think the trade is fair.

Yeah I am not against Hoffman for Barrie, just not sure the Oilers can move Barrie and leave a hole at RD since they are trying to compete. I also think they would want a setup guy like Drouin on an expiring contract more than another shooter like Hoffman. They have Drai and McDavid to shoot but adding a setup guy with speed and a guy who can enter the zone with possession and take some pressure off McDavid in this regard kind of opens up the ice a bit more as well.

I'm open as well as long as the Habs don't have to retain and we remove Struble from the deal.

Hoffman "struggles" in the sense that he simply doesn't; Barrie certainly has his deficiencies in the D-zone, but it's not like we're talking about Keith Yandle. The only reason for EDM to move Barrie right now is to cut cap so, if a deal doesn't achieve that, it's not a viable trade proposal.

Makes no sense for Edmonton to move the most experienced d on the roster for a forward truly have zero need for replacing the full cap hit so not even saving anything to help fill the hole created. I don't see any way this can make sense for Edmonton.
