Deadline selling

Description
Tried to do a selling scenario where I'm not asking anyone for 1st round picks or top prospects.

-------

Here is a little about who NJD would be adding

Ottawa - We get two pieces that fit Fitzy wish list. Ostapchuk is a future bottom-six center, who is also a big-body-soft-hands type that can play near front of net. (As Fitzy says, "heavier skill"). Bernard-Docker fits his call for mobile, defensive dman. Defends with his skating. Can play as 2nd piece with more offensive player like Luke Hughes. Would move ahead of Walsh in depth chart.

Florida - Puutio is a puck-moving dman, who is said to have great possession numbers in Liiga and recently was named best defenseman at World Juniors. A bit of boom/bust type of prospect, but is two or three years away.

Edmonton - Foegele wouldn't be an intended target, but would be used as veteran for year in bottom-six. I don't think Oilers have cap space to do much else.

Toronto - Malgin is a smaller, offensive forward. I really just added him because he is Swiss and I believe Marlies may be nearing their AHL veteran roster limit.

Minnesota - Rieger Lorenz is a University of Denver-bound forward that plays a physical game. He is a bit of a wild card, coming out of pandemic year to light up Junior A. Certainly a bunch of unproven upside there.

Picks
2023 2nd round pick (OTT)
2023 2nd round pick (FLA)
2023 3rd round pick (EDM) (becomes 2nd if EDM makes SCF)
2024 3rd round pick (FLA)
2023 3rd round pick (TOR)

-------

what do you think on a whole? Realistic?
Trades
1.
NJD
  1. Bernard-Docker, Jacob
  2. Ostapchuk, Zack
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (OTT)
OTT
  1. Severson, Damon ($2,083,333 retained)
Additional Details:
Trade deadline - Ottawa is tied with Boston for 4th in Atlantic division. Boston is slowing, Ottawa is rising. Severson extends with Justin Faulk-esque extension.
2.
NJD
  1. Puutio, Kasper [Reserve List]
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (FLA)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Graves, Ryan ($1,583,333 retained)
Additional Details:
Trade deadline - Florida is 3rd in the Atlantic, but lack of depth on blueline puts playoff advancement in peril. Strict rental, no extension agreed to at time of trade.
3.
NJD
  1. Foegele, Warren
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Tatar, Tomas ($2,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Trade Deadline - Oilers locked in Alberta rivalry for first in Pacific. Knights and Kings aren't far behind. They add a little offense/possession for bottom-six and gain a little cap space ($500k in 2022-23 and $2.75 million in 2023-24). Conditional 3rd round pick becomes 2nd if Oilers reach SCF.
4.
NJD
  1. Malgin, Denis
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Wood, Miles
Additional Details:
Trade deadline - Leafs are trying to catch Lightning for first in Atlantic, appear to be heading for first round clash with Florida. With aim of reaching second round, hey start adding some size/speed pieces into lineup that can put pressure on Panther blueline.
5.
NJD
  1. Lorenz, Rieger [Reserve List]
MIN
  1. Haula, Erik
Additional Details:
Trade Deadline - Minnesota is fourth in Central division and locked in battle with Dallas, just behind Nashville and St. Louis. Sam Steel has not worked out as Sturm replacement, so they look to bring back veteran Haula for short-term, costing them Denver freshman Lorenz.

Minnesota declines. Haula will never be welcome back in Minnesota, with the wild. The dude is a cancer and has a bad history. Plus doesn't fit Minnesota

1st rounder or bust for Severson imo. No room for prospects over picks.

No room for prospects? We have 22 contracts on the books for next year, plus 12 RFAs. Add Gritsyuk and Hughes and that is 36/50 spots filled. We have tons of room.

Besides, these two are pretty good prospects. I'd take them over a late 1st.

And the excitement over the 2023 draft is in top-half of 1st round...unlikely any of those picks will be moved at deadline.

He openly bashed the organization on his way out,
and several players that are still on the roster. As a person himself, if you live in Minnesota like myself, there's things about haula that , I am just going to put it this way, he's not a good person and isn't liked.

Oh. First time I am hearing that. I had always thought Minnesota paid Vegas to take him to protect Dumba.

That and that very much like Parise, and suter, he was a cancer. He has a larger than normal ego and burns bridges. There's a reason he doesn't last anywhere. Also him as person in Minnesota, there's so many telling conversations, stories about him .

Well, hopefully he has grown and matured and doesn’t make a stink in Jersey.

As long he's playing a top 6 role, top 4 , he will be happy. When he's not, if he's not grown, he will just be let go

Since the minute he was traded, he was tagged with 3C. He said in interview that he will push for higher spot in lineup, but knows the centers that are on the team.

The coach has to be careful about haula's unhappiness

True for every coach and most every player though.

He is also in contract year, with Jesper Boqvist competing for his spot. Hopefully, there is no issue.

23 will be very much like 20 draft! deep with quality in the 1st and 2nd and we should see some good players come out of the 3-5 rounds as well!

Sens aren't doing that

Bernard-Docker and Ostapchuk are still easily worth 1st round picks to them, plus a 2nd round pick

They would not pay that price

2023 will be good at top of draft, but the difference between #20-32 pick in 2023 vs #20-32 pick in other years is not as profound. People want to get their hands on 2023 1sts, but the only ones that will be traded will be late picks, no lottery picks.

6-7 years at $6.5 million is reasonable, I think. Justin Faulk contract has been my comp.

I think JBD and Ostapchuk are easily worth a 1st round pick, but so is Severson.

Yeah actually Faulk expires at 34 y/o so not much better

I'd sign Severson 5 years max

Is Severson worth 2 first round picks and a 2nd?

JBD was a 1st in 2018 and while he's not a regular yet it's just a matter of time. He's a defenseman and has developed as expected, will be excellent defensively

They also have no reason to trade Ostapchuk for less than 1st round pick value. He was the 39th OA pick 1 year ago and if we were wondering why at the beginning, it has become more clear in the last few months. Many of us see him as the Sens next big prospect after Sanderson/Pinto/Greig graduate

For a dman, I don't think 34 years old is really that old.
The Faulk deal, good or bad, is just a likely comp for Severson if he reaches open market.
If ACGM is any guide, there will be *A LOT* of suitors

Two 1sts? Maybe. I doubt it.
But with what we have seen with RDs in recent years, you never know.
Risto, Savard, Seth Jones, Lundkvist, etc....GMs are paying through there teeth to acquire.
