Description
At the moment it looks like Miller/Petey will play 1LW, with the other centering the first line. The big problem with this is it forces one of the top 9 caliber wingers to play on the 4th line and it leaves a massive hole in the 3C slot. If Miller and Petey instead center the top 2 lines, with Horvat being the 3C, we'd effectively have 3 top 6 caliber lines, and one more defensively focused line as the 4th line.

While this does provide some other problems, I feel like we have enough depth on the wing to pull this off. If Kuzmenko is what he's cracked up to be and Podkolzin can take some steps, this could genuinely work really well. The defense is still a massive issue which puts a lot of strain on Demko, but this forward group is, in my opinion, a top 10 forward group in the NHL.

As an oilers fan, it worked for us running McDavid, Drai, and Nuge down the middle, which would work for you guys too

Pretty sure Boudreau has already said he wants to run Miller-Petey-Horvat down the middle to start the year. They have the depth on the wings to make it work too so I don't know why they wouldn't.

Yeah no chance Petey or Miller are run on LW. They want three scoring lines they can roll against anyone.

Dickinson and Joshua will also be on the roster over Dowling and Karlsson.

You see how in this case I've bought Dickinson out, so we can accumulate cap space for a potential trade deadline addition like Chychrun

I did not know he said that, I thought the consensus was Petey - Miller - Boeser and Mikheyev - Horvat - Garland

Those would be fantastic lines IMO, but only if they had a capable 3C behind Bo... which they don't. If they have those 3 all playing center, there will still be a top-9-quality winger relegated to the 4th line because of their depth, so using Miller or Petey on the wing too just doesn't make any sense.

I mean it all depends on kuzmenko, he could very well be a bust

Yep, he's a wildcard for sure. But even if you take him out of the lineup there's still 6 wingers that are easily either top-6 or top-9 quality.

Yep, I'd say rn Pearson is the odd man out and he's a LW so he can replace Kuzmenko if necessary
