Yzerman is a good GM, but I bet Treliving gets more for Valimaki. DET would have to be disappointed in all of the D-Men they brought in this off-season after training camp to make a move like this as well

I'm banking on more injuries being announced between now and the start of the season, so Teams will be scrambling for replacements, driving the value up. I mean Lundkvist hasn't done much in the NHL either and just returned a 1st and 4th Round Pick, so Young Former 1st Round RFA Defensemen seem to hold their value

Alternatively, CGY may elect to Scratch 2-3 D-Men and keep them around instead of trying to send them down exposing them to waivers

Detroit passes, Yzerman said in his presser Wednesday that he's not surrendering any 2023 picks, In fact he wants more. And Valimaki isn't much of an upgrade over what we have already in our LD pipeline.

Idk man for lundkvist it was a different situation there wasn’t a spot for him unlike vali if he proved last year he was good then we wouldn’t have signed zadorov. Valis situation is more similar to kaut

I'm not so sure. I think Valimaki is more a Victim of Time & Circumstances. Between the injuries that derailed and slowed his development and maybe saying the wrong things, maybe he hasn't received the opportunity he should/could have. Don't get me wrong, I like Sutter and Valimaki didn't do enough given the opportunities he was provided, but if you have a Coach who Values Size and a GM who paid a premium to acquire & pay Zadorov, who do you think they're going to put on the ice!?

Valimaki does have weaknesses, he could be much stronger and aggressive for his size, but unless he's lost his skating, he should still be dangerous. Valimaki was playing bottom pairing minutes in Stockton from my understanding, as sticking around for the first 9 NHL Games may have seemed great, but while that was happening Mackey became 1LD and to his credit, gave no reason for them to take him out of it. Stockton had a good season and didn't want to switch things up for Valimaki, who's stats and likely value may have taken a hit as a result. I'm sure scouts know better, but there's arguments that he's still worth a 1st to this post, which says it's an early-to-mid 4th. I think its a High 2nd or early 3rd, but if Teams need help, it could go up quickly and a 1st may not be unrealistic

The greatest advantage Lundkvist has is he's a Right Shot RD, which are more rare than Left Shot LD's, but Valimaki is Bigger and can play both sides, so again, unless Valimaki has issues I'm not aware of, they should be on par but Valimaki could be tainted, so a late 1st to early 3rd, although a big window, is probably what he brings
