Tweeners

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 30, 2022
Published: Sep. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
While I know every team ends up with a few AHL/NHL ttweeners (ie guys who are either too good for the AHL and/or can be too end players there, but are just depth in the NHL) between developing their own prospects who aren't quite good enough, guys declining over the years, and the odd NHL signing, it's really stood out to me how many the leafs have had the last few years as our cap has gotten tight and we've tried to get cheap depth with upside. It also really surprises me how many of these guys sign with the leafs when there is so much internal competition and in previous years a lot of them signed on like the first day of free agency...

Examples this year are benn and mete Gaudette

I feel like we can make a mini roster of them! Haha

For the record I used Jan 1, 2020 as my cutoff. Anyone born after that I'm still considering more of a prospect than a tweener

I think one reason some older, iffy NHLers/AHLer UFAs sign with the Leafs is that Leafs and Marlies are in the same city. Some of ther NHL teams have the same situation. If you're let's say 30 years old, married, with kids, the stability of living in the same location whether you are an NHLer or AHLer is important.
