CBJ Pass.

• CBJ have invested three first-round picks on defensemen in the past two drafts: Corson Ceulemans at No. 25 in 2021, and David Jiricek at No. 6 and Denton Mateychuk at No. 12 this summer. It won’t be long before they’re claiming NHL roster spots, even if one of them is included in the trade.

• Chychrun (left shot) has played mostly on the left side in the NHL. He’d be an instant upgrade to the overall unit, sure, but somebody in the top four would have to move to the right side. Not ideal. And not Greta to give up this much for a middle-pairing guy.

• His injury concerns are real. Beyond the ankle and wrist work this summer, he’s had both ACLs repaired and a shoulder surgery to fix a torn ligament. That’s a lot of work for a player who doesn’t turn 25 until March.

Someone is going to overpay for him (good for you, ASU!), but I do not want it to be CBJ.

Chychrun is more than capable of playing on the right side and if CBJ traded for him it would be to come in on the top pair with Z. I'd rather part with Cuelemans than Mateychuk, because like you said, the injury concerns are real. That is what is hurting the price ARZ wants to get. They might hold out and get a better deal at the deadline (like this one for a guy like Matechuk), but only if Chychrun stays healthy, and that is a big risk to run.

He's been demonstrably better on the left than the right. I'd rather not hobble a guy who is already injury prone. wink
