Description
Positives:
- Outside of Salo, I liked the way the newcomers and kids played. I thought Soshnikov and Bellows played good physical hockey and if they keep playing like that, I’d be happy to keep them in our bottom 6 for awhile.
- At least during the 1st period, we showed we can generate offensive pressure. And hey, most nights you put 30 shots on goal, you’ll get AT LEAST 2 goals. That game could have very easily gone to overtime.
- I really like Romanov as Dobson Defensive Partner. He’s fast enough to stay in the play but he’s got a talent for putting on hits without playing recklessly.
- Sorokin, you deserved better.

Negatives:
- I really liked our approach to the game in the 1st period, we kept the pressure up. Why did we back off in the 2nd period? I know the Panthers were just playing better in the 2nd, but man, our approach to the game was still way too conservative.
- I am not a fan of the Parise-Barzal-Palmieri line. I doubt I am alone in that regard. Weirdly, I though Parise was the best guy on that line tonight. Barzal was too self indulgent with the puck and Palmieri was invisible all night. Palmieri ought to be a middle 6er.
- Salo seemed upset with the second penalty called on him. I agree it was a bad call, but still, I thought he was really sloppy out there. Which is a shame because I think he brings a lot of what we need.
- I know we killed every penalty tonight and got a PPG, but neither special teams unit passed the eye test on my mind. The Panthers seemed to enter the zone at will on the Power Play and the Panthers got to clear the puck way too often. I hope some focus is put on that in practice.

Anyway, here’d be my lineups until Wahlstrom heals up:

The line spent a lot of time in the ozone (due to Barzal) - the main issue is Palmieri and Parise had a lot trouble finding the soft spots when Barzal was looking to pass. Palmieri his being paid 5 mill, he was good defensively tonight but offensively he struggled.

I thought soshnikov was awful at 5v5 - he did have that one good shot at 5v5.

Salo started that game strong , the 2nd half he wasn’t good. It happens.

I did think Palmieri needed to get himself in better shot opportunities but as for forechecking, puck battles and just defensively as a whole I thought he was very solid. As for Parise I think he got himself in nice shooting spots very high quality shot attempts that he took and was just overall great.

Yeah the issue with Parise is he lost his finishing touch. With palmieri all those things are great but without the finishing he’s just a middle 6 winger. Barzal was dominant tonight and Palmieri had no SOG
