What is the point of that trade? The only reason for Edmonton to trade Foegele is to save his cap hit, and this doesn't do that.

This makes no sense for either team. These teams would be trading these players for cap space.

That's is the point. Both teams don't have to trade away valuable assets to get rid of them, maybe change of scenery, playing style could be beneficial for those players.

But the pens are trading away a valuable asset to just bring in at best an equal player. It may not be valuable in terms of he could get a high pick, but DOC is absolutely the 1st forward I’d bring up if a long term injury happens. He’d be in the nhl right now if it weren’t for the pens having a million bottom 6 forwards.

For me DOC is just a depth guy which Pittsburgh has enough of them. It doesn't hurt the future, and that's what I care about. Foegele has shorter contract, so you gotta give something, but of course I have a way more faith in him than McGinn.

McGinn is the better player. It’d be one thing if mcginn was signed to like 5 years and foegle to 2 or foegle was a pending UFA. But 1 year isn’t worth DOC and a 5th. DOC has potential to be a solid 3rd liner. And he’s cheap which the Pens need to take advantage of. They don’t need to trade those guys with McGinn just to get similar players on similar contracts.
It’s not something the pens need, so it’s not worth it.
