Description
How realistic is this if Montreal wants to compete after this year?

Are the UFA/RFA signings fair? And is it fair to assume Montreal will fall off and pick top 5 ?

I'd say probably more for Cole Caufield.... Once Marty took over behind the bench last season he was 2nd in even strength goals. He is also starting out on a real heater this season too.

I like him as a person but as a player I think he needs a bit more seasoning

Cole Caufield

His contract will definitely be hefty if he continues producing like he has…. I thought the Fiala deal was a reasonable comparable

I think caufield probably gonna get another mil on top of that if he continues to score at this pace. Sverson is interesting, would be a solid addition the money is reasonable just not sure of his interest in mtl. I think Xhekaj is going to be remaining up, not sure what seasoning he needs as he has played very well so far, hes a bottom pairing dman and brings something that no one else on the team does. I'm not sure Edmundson is a hab next season, I have long thought that the intention was to keep him to provide a vet presence for the young dman, but with how well Ghule has played and with Matheson term left on his contract i think Edmundson is the one who will be moved.

I wouldve loved to see Taraseko in a habs Jersey, 4 or 5 years ago, but i dont think they will be going out and signing a winger, they should be staying true to the rebuild which means you dont want to further jam the roster up, Roy and Beck probably both ready to step in next season and Farrell isnt too far behind, think they would be better off allowing those players to grow instead of trying to be competitive next season.

due to the announcement on the cap (major increase)... my guess, the agent will start at 10.5M-11.0M a year, to end up at around 9.0M-9.5M

Hope he don’t cost that much but unfortunately that could very well be the result

Severson and Caufield would cost at least 1M more on AAV.

Also they don't need wingers, a lot of good prospect in the pipeline. If you want to sign a UFA, the priorities are a RHD (which you did), then a Center (Monahan?) and a Goalie (in 2024).

I agree for there need for a goalie, not a fan of Monty or Primeau but both on 1 ways at that point so hard not to see one of them with Allen. Drafting Carlsson I assumed he’d start 2C. Maybe sign a veteran for like 2 years as a stop gap and let Carlsson develop in lower leagues or on the wing ?

Top 6 Center rookies usually start playing wings in the big league anyway. Farrell and Mesar might be able to help too.
