Depth Move Before Wednesday

Created by: TheTradeIs1For1
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 1, 2022
Published: Nov. 1, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pens need some FWD depth with Carter injury and suboptimal play of some depth FWD like Archibald. Aube-Kubel seems like a good fit for a 4th line with McGinn and Blueger when the later returns from injury. Mete seems like the type of faltering former hyped-up d-man who is a good skater who goes to the Pens and ends up having success - think Schultz, Daley. Pens open up a spot for a Ty Smith call up as well.

Meanwhile leafs add couple defensive options with contract control who may be better suited to aid their transition game. If anything just options other than Holl or Kral for a reset.

Leafs aren't getting much return value for this trade, easy decline.

Leafs need to drop a contract spot to have a 3rd goalie at all. I don't think Aube-Kubel or Mete are going to move the needle much when they've been uninspiring so far.

Pens are just as cap-crunched as the Leafs are - the low-cost term on POJ & Ruhwedel is exactly why they wouldn't be too quick to trade them. And I don't think they're going to be jumping at needing to upgrade their bottom 6 after 9 games - there's still a *lot* of season left and making a trade to shore that part of your roster at this point in the year is a bit hasty.

This isn't it. POJ has had a good start to the season and Ruhwedel is a trusted veteran 7th D on the cheap. A reclamation project and an offensively inept 4th liner who takes too many penalties isn't good return value.
