Bruins make a move

Created by: MoserForNorris
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 4, 2022
Published: Nov. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just a quick thought on something to open up some cap space for the Bruins at the TDL while potentially improving their backend.

While the Bruins powerplay hasn't been bad, Arizona is off to a hot start on the PP largely in part to Ghost's abilities up top. He was never a bad player, his contract and the coach's usage of him put him in the doghouse in Philly and he's back to being that puck-moving offensive defenseman he was early on in his career.

Welcome to CapFriendly. Bruins have McAvoy, Lindholm and Grzelcyk for the PP anyways, they don't need Gostisbehere and they give up too much here while moving two good players.

I don't honestly believe Smith and Reilly are good players/worth the contracts they are commanding right now.

I can understand not wanting Ghost because of McAvoy, Lindholm, and Gryz (and frankly I'd trust Krejci up top if they wanted to run a 5 Forward unit at times), but I can't see them hanging onto Smith and Reilly. Maybe they'd have value at half their current salary.

Greer has been better than Smith so far this year and Reilly has largely disappointed in my viewings. I'm excited to see what Waissmann can do and think he deserves a shot at some point.

So maybe instead of the bigger trade it's just Smith and/or Reilly attached w an asset for a late round pick/future considerations? Or maybe the Bruins can bring good ole Josh Brown back into the fold as that 7th/8th pairing defenseman.

It's a short sample size and Smith has been injured and moved around in the lineup. Greer also has an easier role given his style of play. Bruins should move bottom line/overpaid players first before these two imo.

No room for him on the roster.

He’s the opposite of a bruins style player. Not a shot they’re interested at all.
