Yes, getting overpaid in every trade you made is very ideal.

For the umpteenth time the Avs won't be trading Newhook AND the '23 1st for a rental. Doubtful they will trade either!

Me thinks BOS would be certifiably in CAP JAIL.
The Bruins are old, but will not get to be THAT old for that long...

Can you retain some term too?

Extend him then. Newhook has 3 points in 11 games, Horvat has 12 goals and 16 points (he's going to cost more than a very late 1st).

Surely you want to go for another cup before MacKinnon's extension kicks in?

Also not sure what you're talking about, I've never made this trade proposal before...

There is a thing called a salary cap. The Avs can't afford to extend him so he's a rental, so the Avs aren't likely to be interested as Horvat reputedly wants 8 mil plus PA. Just like every other Canucks fan, only viewing it from Vancouver's sde and if you'd looked there are ample numbers of this trade (and variants, some even worse) posted on here which is what I refer to.

I think he'll come in under $8M, but I would think COL could afford that if they trade out one of their 5 top-4 defenders. Would be interested to see how you think they line up next season and how much you think they'll spend on a top 6 C

I don't think there is an easy answer but Avs fans know that Newhook is going to be given the majority of the season to take his shot. Add into that the top 6 hasn't once looked like it would at full strength yet this year and judging AN on points alone isn't a smart judgement. So next year it may be Newhook, on a bridge deal most likely I think, or the Avs might look to a stop gap to give him more time. They most certainly won't be breaking the bank for one. I still believe in the off-season one of Toews or more likely Girard (imho) are likely to get traded either for a C directly or to re-stock the cupboards and make cap space to sign a UFA IF Newhook doesn't look ready, and a lot will depend on how much the cap increase is. Bearing in mind MacKinnon's extension and Byram and Newhook to sign. Far too many variables in there. I'd be perfectly happy if they could find a way to add Horvat in free agency but I think he may well be a piece of Stevie Y's puzzle in Detroit as he may take a discount to play there. He definitely seems set on pricing himself out of BC that's for sure. A lot of Avs fans consider Henrique to be a good potential stop gap/fill in. No idea if a deal could be made there with ANA.

Horvat won't be going anywhere in FA. By all accounts he's happy in Vancouver, he's the captain and they can afford to pay him $8M without moving any salary out. If he gets moved it will be at the TDL or as a sign and trade, losing him for nothing would be completely unacceptable.

It should be unacceptable yes, most definitely if it comes to losing him for nothing, but then he could easily enter free agency if someone has been crazy enough to overpay for him and can't re-sign him as per this offer. I simply don't see the Avs as a good fit for a trade. There's also the aspect of losing him for nothing that looms over it for VAN. That has the potential for VAN to be accepting what they can get rather than lose him for nothing, especially with other potential targets out there for teams.
