VAN-PITT goalie swap if both continue to struggle

Created by: GMBL
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 15, 2022
Published: Nov. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Demko, Thatcher
  2. Pearson, Tanner
Additional Details:
Don't dwell too much on trade value, the real GMs can figure out the difference.

I feel like Pittsburgh could be open to moving off from Jarry just in general, and if Demko becomes available they would probably be one of the teams to pursue him, unless there's another goalie out there with their last name ending in "-RY". It just so happens that Jarry is born in BC but I only knew that after I checked to see where each goalie was born.

Pearson and Carter could potentially rekindle some old chemistry, and Hextall seems to like the 30+ age club. Maybe they should trade Guentzel for Toffoli and reunite the LA "That 70s line" (joking).
VAN
  1. Jarry, Tristan
  2. Kapanen, Kasperi
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Don't dwell too much on trade value, the real GMs can figure out the difference.

Kapanen brings speed, and obviously needs a fresh start.
2.
PIT
  1. Toffoli, Tyler
Additional Details:
Calm down!!! Just seeing if it's plausible...

You want Calgary to trade away a top 6 foward(that is the teams biggest need) for 2 bottom 6 fowards(which is one of the teams biggest strengths) no thanks

Not a huge fan of Pearson. I'd rather just do Jarry and 2nd for Demko. Calgary trade is interesting but you'll have to talk to Calgary fans about that one. I would trade Kapanen for one of Pulji or Yamamoto. And dump Dumo anywhere to get POJ and Smith into the lineup

I would imagine it takes more than Jarry+2nd to land Demko considering the contract situation. The Pearson for Kapanen just seems like something Hextall would do, and I think Rutherford likes Kapanen too but I would also like that move for Vancouver if there is no place for him in Pittsburgh.

Kapanen for JP or Yamamoto might not be a bad idea for both teams, particularly Kapanen for JP. I think trading Yamamoto for Kapanen, could easily be a move EDM regrets if Kapanen doesn't work out. As for Puljujarvi perhaps Edmonton regrets trading him but I think they will also regret keeping him. I don't see him thriving in Edmonton.

Chances are Dumo just ends up staying until next off-season.

The CGY trade was just a joke, if the cap was similar I would have tossed Guentzel instead.

Canucks decline. If we are trading Demko, it probably means we are blowing it up. Would likely be traded for futures

Jarry is in the last year of his contract and Demko still has 3 years remaining. Not to mention Demko is easily the better goalie. The only reason Vancouver would trade Demko is for futures and a 2nd is not that

It doesn't really matter what you'd rather do, there's no way in hell the Canucks are doing either deals lol

Could be Jarry+futures (I just put a 2nd to indicate that it's not a 2 for 2). It seems pretty clear that the team isn't going to go through a full rebuild, so they will need a goalie. I just don't know anything about the Pens farm to even attempt to try finding someone who would interest Vancouver. I would assume they want a promising RD prospect+conditional 2nd (turns to a 1st if Pens make the playoffs) or an exchange of other roster players. Demko is better than Jarry and is locked, but Jarry will still have some value in comparison if they are playing on par with each other on the season.

I guess. I don't really think Pittsburgh either A) should be trading futures, or B) has particularly interesting futures for Vancouver

That's true but I can see Hextall doubling down on the roster, probably not taking Pearson but if Demko were available I could see him trade Jarry+. On the flip side, this would probably be one of the few trade offers that Vancouver gets that would allow them to sell but still "compete". Of course if Jarry is expecting more than 5m or unwilling to sign an extension with Vancouver post-trade, it makes no sense for them to take him. NJ and CBJ could pursue Demko and perhaps offer a RD of value to fill that need but Blackwood is injury prone and is more of a tandem goalie, and Merzlikins (assuming he waives) has a bigger cap hit than Demko.
