Tavares 66 points, one year in contract. Turris 55 points one year, Hoffman 61 points, 3 years. I just don't understand how this trade even makes Ottawa better next year. Yes, I understand points aren't everything.
But you really want Smith and of injured MacArthur as top two LWers?

My hope is that Tavares had an off year last year. And for the amount that he makes next year (just over what Hoffman makes) that gives Dorion the room to get another dynamic winger if they see fit. Much easier to find than a top 5-10 centre in the league.

That's a big price to pay, no doubt. But trying to match up against the likes of Matthews, Eichel, Stamkos, Bergeron, all in the Atlantic for the foreseeable future, scares me.

All that being said, you're completely right, counting on Smith and Macarthur as your top two LW is a very bad idea. Would have to fill that void for sure.

holy **** you just added the caveat about a "sign and trade" after folks said the the trade you posted was not a good one a one year of JT. Gee, talk about being dishonest trying justify a poor trade. And why would JT agree to a sign and trade now? As of now, he's committee to be a UFA. If he did sign a with this fathom sign and trade would like it see the 2018/19 Ottawa lineup to see if it's even cap possible.

This is probably near what it would take, Senators #1C and #1LW.

As other's have said, I'm not sure it makes Sens better in the short term, although sens would finally have that coveted #1C to play with Karlsson that they have been missing since Spezza departed, I'd do this if Tavares has agreed to an extension.

I'm not trying to justify anything. I just cant stand people like you that dont think any trade concerning Tavares wouldnt be a sign and trade. I can GUARANTEE you if he does get traded it's going to be a sign and trade. And as I've said on like the last 3 threads you've posted this on he gets an 8 team list to wherever he would like to be traded. One can pretty much assume that of all of those 8 teams, he obviously wants to play there and probably wants to stay there long term or he wouldnt want to get traded. And this isnt even talking about the Ottawa trade this just goes for the whole NHL with these trades, they're all sign and trades. Obviously nobody would give up that much for 1 year worth of a player.

That's what I am thinking it would take to get a #1C like Tavares. As a Sens fan, I love Turris, and I love Hoffman. But in order to get what is extremely hard to find, you will have to overpay. I agree with Palhal, you need to address the LW position after this trade (probably through UFA), which I have not addressed in this post, and should have. However the idea of having Tavares, Brassard, Pageau, and Smith/White as your centre ice is very intriguing.

    Thanks for the input!
