Assuming players waive, there would be a significant add by FLA imo

San Jose giving up the two best pieces in the trade for what? Horrible. Add a couple 1st round picks….oh wait

Show me where I said they do, but if Bob nixes it it doesn't matter.

Honest question… what are sharks fans expectations on a return for Karlsson?

I think a trade is not likely but if a trade happens his contract and age in the current cap situation doesn’t give many options. I think if a trade is done it will be because Karlsson wants to go somewhere to contend and SJ loses a lot of leverage there. I don’t see SJ retaining more than a million or so for the remaining years, so the whole retain half or double retain with AZ will not happen.

Curious to know what the word around sharks fans are about what a realistic return would be.

I have zero sources into the team or any real knowledge on what Grier would be looking for. Like all the insiders, it’s just speculation based on the current state of the team. I could see them realistically retaining $2.5 mil a year with the cap going up. I wonder if a third team would retain like $1.5 mil, nothing crazy, on top of that to make Karlsson’s new cap hit $7.5 mil. If he continues to play the way he has now, that’s a steal for any team. I think in the short term they would likely have to take some cap back in a trade, but I would imagine they would want some good assets for him. Not a backup $10 mil goaltender but like 1st rounder and some prospects

I think some fancy retention work could make it happen. That would help get SJ a better return. Any speculation on who is willing to trade for him?

That’s a huge who knows. Rumor was Ottawa was kicking the tires, thought they said even half retention they could make it work, which I find hard to believe.

Not sure Edmonton has the room long term for him but that would be interesting. Seattle might not want to give up the picks for him but that would be an interesting place too. Florida was tossed out by many, but I don’t think San Jose wants to take Bobrovsky back in any deal, or at least they won’t get the assets they feel they should receive for Karlsson and taking on Bobrovsky.
