Currently, both teams have no cap, and FLR needs to already clear 3m to add Duclair. For there to be a path for a trade 1) SJ needs to have traded Meier away (or gain cap somehow) and 2) SJ needs to be taking on more cap overall, so that the move helps FLR instead of further handicapping them. You turned 2 roster players into 1 here. Need to also consider what adding Karlsson at 9.5m (they probably need him for cheaper) does for Florida's long-term cap structure.

I have already done the math for the cats and it works 😉

It works but without Duclair, no? Nvm, I just saw that Hornqvist is LTIR now.

I'm assuming you also looked at the long-term outlook too?

New question is: Do they have space for Meier too (with 50% retention this year and 7.5-8mx8 with an extension)? I want to see a massive blockbuster deal.

The real winner here is Erik Karlsson, going from California's tax rate to Florida's (a $1,528,855 per year difference)

Cats are concerned with the short term. They want to win sooner rather than later. They might have to make another move to be compliant in the future but i can't make moves in the future on one simple acgm. Friedman stated florida as a team interested in Karlsson so this is my proposal.

Sharks were rumored to be in on Reinhart before the Cats got him. But that was the Wilson era Sharks so idk if Grier has the same interest. Grier tends to like more physical players hence why he might like Gudas.

They wouldn't really have anyone to trade, but I took a look and with a flat cap next year and they should be able to make Karlsson fit. I had Meier at 7.5m too with Duclair going out but they ran out of cap with 17 roster players, I think. They might be able to make them both fit in reality but would probably require a bit more retention by Grier. I can see Grier retain up to 3.5m (~30%) but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Cats don't have the pieces to get Meier and Karlsson. Sharks can get a lot more for Timo from another team. Cats have no 1sts and outside of Samoskevic no real prosoects. That's not happening

If Samoskevic is their best prospect, they probably aren't giving him and Reinhart up for Karlsson, especially with minimal retention.

He's their best prospect. He is far from an elite prospect and is years away. Reinhart is cap purposes and is having a bad year. It makes sense. But we will just have to agree to disagree

Oh well if he sucks then, I guess they might do it. Reinhart is having a poor season but Zito would have to be incredible short-sighted to just look at this year by year. He might have used up all of their draft picks but he's not short-sighted when it comes to roster construction.

Florida doesn’t have the assets to acquire Karlsson let alone Meier and Karlsson
