Last i checked jarnkrok isn’t a defenceman and only has 9 points in 25 games making him clearly not worth a third. Also the oilers have gotten big name players before so I don’t see how edmonton is hard market to attract ufas during the decade of darkness yea but rn no. Jarnkrok is bottom six forward which is easy find for a lower trade price and during free agency.

How is Edmonton not a hard market to attract UFAs?

Over the recent years we have gotten hyman, evander kane, and we got duncan keith to waive his no trade, and now patrick kane has the oilers on the list of teams he would want to be traded to. The oilers aren’t a rebuilding team anymore and some players want to come play here its as simple as that. Also making the argument that the oilers need to overpay to get jarnkrok becuz we apparently can’t sign bottom six forwards is foolish.

Lol when has Patrick Kane ever said that he wanted to go to the Oilers? Oilers were the only team interested in Kane, no one was overpaying for Hyman, and no one was trading for Keith. Just the Oilers

how is playing with McDavid & Draisaitl not attractive to potential UFAs?

I mean, I know the city isn't really the most cosmopolitan metropolis, but how many NHL cities really are? Chicago, New York, LA, Miami, and where else? DC maybe? Toronto & Montreal I'm sure, but there's the whole other issue of being in a fishbowl there. And beyond that, you're looking at a bunch of cities that probably have similar pros and cons to Edmonton as far as a market goes. I just don't see it being that big of a detriment.

The oilers didn’t overpay for Hyman we got him at the right price and if I remember correctly the canucks i believe at the time also had interest rest in keith also i have seen that the oilers, capitals, and the rangers are the top three teams kane is looking at rn before he decides were he wants to go.

Keith was a willing to move to Vancouver too and only had Edmonton and Vancouver as options for a personal matter (if I recall correctly). You are both right, in that the Oilers do have trouble signing guys but some players do come to Edmonton as it is probably the second most attractive Canadian market currently for guys who are looking to win a cup towards the end of their careers. Idk if a 3rd is an overpay for Jarnkrok, he's a defensive 3rd liner on a cheap contract, but the Oilers won't do it because it's not worth it. There are plenty of bottom-six forwards that come available but the Oilers need cheap ones (even cheaper than Jarnkrok) they can have trouble signing them because Toronto is also looking for the same forwards. Take Aube-Kubel for example. The good thing is that guys that leave the Leafs are likely interested in Edmonton.

Jarnkrok probably has all the other Canadian teams on his NTC and the Leafs won't even trade him. He's doing what he's paid to do, and I believe he left money on the table to come to Toronto. If he is available Edmonton probably isn't going to trade for him because they have more pressing needs, as you mentioned.
