Young winger

Created by: zackvillani
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 6, 2022
Published: Dec. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Team is getting old. Pager palms brock bailey 4th line lee all either 30 or above 30. Might as well start making our team younger very slowly so we won't have to go into a big rebuild in 2-3 years. Tomasino is a good fit for a young player to add to the lineup.

Isles should really hold on to their '23 1st unless they're getting a home run of a player in the trade - they haven't made a pick in the top-50 since 2019, and their farm system is universally ranked as one of the 5 worst in the league. Not saying Tomasino isn't going to be good, but I just think it makes more sense for the Isles to be targeting players who'll be NHL ready in 2-3 years (when that aging core you're talking about is gone) instead of getting a guy who's going to burn his ELC getting bottom-6 minutes on this team.

Tomasino should be getting top 6 minutes right away on the isles. it's their biggest need.

They've just barely started giving Ollie the top-6 minutes he deserves - I have very little faith that they'd give them to Tomasino even if they traded a 1st rounder for him. I don't disagree that this is a good trade for the Islanders to make, I'm just pessimistic that they'd use the player correctly. At this point I'd rather just draft some 18 year old this summer who'll be 21 by the time Bailey/Palmieri/et al are aged off the roster and there's no choice but to actually use them.

I guess it depends on the player. Tomasino is like a poor mans mark stone.Eventually he'll find his way to the top 6, he's too good not to.

players who have posted over 50+ equivalency in the AHL in th their D+2 seasons: Zegras, Brassard, Rantanen, Tomasino and Pasta

It doesn't make sense for NSH to do. Why trade a young prospect with a bright future for a draft pick that would be used on a younger prospect who'd be further away from the NHL? Even without unnecessarily adding a pick to the deal, I don't see any upside for NSH.
