I agree with what your saying except what does Sandin provide that is much more valuable then our logjam of young defenders? We have so many on the left side we are going to have to make some difficult decisions. At the same time, we are so thin with young forwards. Hence why I would keep Entwistle over Sandin

Well, Sandin is in the NHL now. So there is that. Give him a year or so, he either shows up big time or he doesn't, but by then younger guys will be able to step in. At that point, Sandin could either become part of the long term plan or maybe worth a decent haul in trade. Entwistle is solid and will probably stick in the NHL for a while, but he's probably just going to be a solid 4th line forward, passed around for 5th round picks, or picked up on the cheap in free agency when teams need a body.

i know it's hack to say it, but i'd take that trade and then just move Sandin to another team at his actual value - probably be able to get back a pick and a young forward with more upside than Entwistle.

I'm not sure how awful a good back goalie and a bottom 6 DMAN is for a proven top 6-9 forward and a 4TH liner, the Leafs have like 4 guys that can do what sandin does but I am trying to sell him high and it looks like it works.

It's the value - Mete & Malgin are interchangeable parts, so really not the focus of the trade. Samsonov is a terrible asset to move out though - do you really want to have to run with Erik Kallgren & Joseph Woll in the playoff if Matt Murray gets hurt or is ineffective?

Domi is a rental. Treat him like that. Give up a pick and/or a prospect. If you're trying to build a team for the playoffs, you should *not* be trading players off your active roster for rentals - Chicago is trying to get a high pick so there's a good chance they're not even going to value a .924 goalie like Samsonov highly, since he messes with their lottery odds.

I just see a lot of potential with our prospects. Korchinski of course, Nolan Allan and Del Mastro who all just got invited to the Canadian juniors. Vlasic, Roos, Kaiser, Galvas and Phillips as well. All lefties...it's a logjam. All these guys have NHL written all over them and I expect at least 4 out of the 8 if not 6 or 7 to become NHL players. Sandin just doesn't offer much more then half of these guys IMO, but I was never high on him. He's a solid 3rd liner with 2nd line upside IMO.

For sure. I do too. But, if they are all developing in the AHL/NCAA/Juniors, over the next couple years, why not see if we can squeeze some draft capital out of a guy like Sandin. Next season, all we have is McCabe and Roos on the left side, and they could be gone by then. It really depends on when CHI thinks the younger guys are ready to step into the NHL. I don't think they want to bring up a million guys at once, though. Their "patience with development" mantra leads me to believe that most of them are still 1 or 2 years out at the very least.

It also creates more competition for the players, and compete is important in the NHL. If Sandin can't beat those other guys to the NHL roster out of camp then we know we got some good ones that are NHL ready, and we trade him or put him on waivers, i guess. Either way, the possibilities are definitely worth an Entwistle.

I don't know. I like Entwistle and he's been playing on the 3rd line. Grant it, he's a 4th liner on playoff teams, but I'd rather keep developing him since he's an organic Hawk product and learning the system given we are so short on forward prospects. I'm pretty sure at least 1 or 2 of our left handed D prospects will be traded to bolster our forward prospects and of course the draft will help. Nonethless, I'm high on Entwistle.
