Trading Strome would be a bad idea to begin with. But for that return, it’s nonsensical. Strome honestly could be a long term replacement for backstrom if he can’t return to form. I want strome in a caps jersey for years to come.

Seattle trade is a pretty good return, I just can’t see either team making that move. Caps probably won’t be making many moves any time soon.

Why in any situation would the Caps move Strome? Even if they decide to sell this year, he’s going to be worth far more than the return he’d get elsewhere, especially when the Caps could likely lock him up to a. 4 or 5 year deal around 5 mil and have even more room to operate given he’s an RFA.

If the Caps were to sell, I could see the argument to perhaps trade Orlov (though he’s been the Caps best actual defenseman for some time), but Strome seems like a non-starter for Washington, especially when he could end up moving to LW down the line when McMichael/Lapierre come up or when Backstrom returns.

Both of these are horrible. caps end up with a worse center, worse defenseman, and worse wingers with a worse long-term cap outlook and only pick up an ok prospect and two seconds
