Knowing how Dach has played recently most likely montreal wouldnt accept this, but Tanev himself is a 0.5 ppg player his last two seasons, plus seattle giving up the same value that montreal did on draft night to aquire him. I think that Dach would be a perfect 2C or LW1 honestly to the team. Montreal still gets the value plus more that he has before, but I thought it was a fun proposal.

I dont think you get the concept that 1st round picks vary wildly in value.

The habs paid a 1st round pick that was 13th overall. The discrepancy in value between 13th overall and what would likely be a late 20s 1st is atleast another early 20s 1st rounder.

Also since the trade Dach has upped his value exponentially both through play (he is 5 points off last seasons total with 40 games fewer played) and his contract.

To be blunt Dallas has NOTHING that the habs would want that isnt a trade where they are getting one of Robertson, Hintz, Oettinger, or Heiskanen for Dach.

As a fan I don't want Dach to be move out he's playing really well presently. And if I think business wise I don't think Hughes / Gorton would move him out. They seem to see him as still the perfect second center piece even if he work with the first duo really well.

Personally I think that if the combination with Suzuki Caufield Dach work keep that together as it working. He may be not the center we took him for but he's currently the best solution yet with the duo of future star of Montreal.

Also way too early to write him off as a center, which I don't believe you were doing, I'm only saying. He's young enough to spend another year or so at wing and then try center again when he's truly grown into his frame. Regardless, this trade proposal is so far off. Tanev has a peak - he was a great selection by the Kraken in the expansion draft, and while as you say he is a roughly 0.5 ppg player the last two seasons (three actually including the current), first off, he hasn't played in more than 32 games a season in a few seasons, and frankly, he is more like a high-end 3rd liner, or a lower-end 2nd liner on a baaad team. Even with a 1st round pick involved, that isn't enough for a player the Habs expect to be a top line player for them.
