Counter: Top 3 protected or shifts to unprotected 2024 1st.

This is a deal that probably gets done.

not even close

Only interesting prospects from BUF are

Levi, Johnson, '23 1st, 2nd and '24 1st

Chances are they still win this trade receiving the best player on an amazing deal

Come on now- there’s just no chance

And the Sabres have the best prospect pool in the league,
so to claim there’s only a couple interesting pieces is just ridiculous

That said, Chychrun is a bad fit for us anyways & is a guy who should not even be on our radar

Chychrun is the wrong target for us
First, that’s a lot to give up for him

Second, he plays poorly on the right side- so he shouldn’t be paired with Power

And obviously, putting him on the 3rd pair wouldn’t make sense

I'm confused. You know the Sabres have the top prospect pool in hockey, right? Not even sure if Johnson is in the top 10 anymore. Maybe, since power, Quinn, peterka, and Krebs have all graduated to the nhl this year, but to think that Levi and Johnson are our only good prospects? The Sabres have 4 first round picks in Rosen, savoie, ostlund, and kulich that are developing nicely, plus guys like portillo and rousek, and several other earlier (but not first round) picks.

You're right it is a lot to give up but In my opinion I think we need one more offensive d-man. It's also important to note that he still young, he can be a core piece and is apparently very open to extending. When it comes to pairings a couple other ideas come to mind since you don't think he is good on the right side.

1. Chychrun and Power switch sides
2. Chychrun on the left side and Dahlin on the right and move Samuelsson with Power

Buffalo will never do top 3 protected for the 2023 1st round pick. They aren't likely to pick in the top 3. If they were to do that they might as well not put a protection on the pick which they wouldn't do. The reason I said top 10 protected is because there is a stronger chance the pick is in the top 10. If Arizona wants a 1st round pick with no protections attached it will very likely be the 2024 1st round pick.

Only problem with that is we have no clue if Power can play well on the right side

And why exactly do we “need” another offensive defenseman?
We are the highest scoring team in the league as is
An offensive defenseman is literally the last thing we need

Btw, it’s not MY opinion that Chychrun is horrible when he plays on the right side
Just ask Arizona fans & they’ll tell ya

In my opinion we're not very strong on defence. It's not just about his offensive ability. he is a very good two-way d-man. I think the most likely scenario would be Dahlin and Chychrun together and having Samuelsson paired with Power

Think we actually need a Defensive Dman to pair with Power. Just let the kid play and learn. Schenn, Murphy or in that mold should be a target.

Neither Samuelsson or Power have spent much time on the right side though- so we have no clue if they could be effective partners

I think if we ended up trading for Chychrun, the pairs would end up looking like this :
Chychrun-Dahlin
Power-Jokiharju
Samuelsson-Lyubushkin

Now that probably makes our deer dense better overall,
but i also don’t think we need to touch the Samuelsson-Dahlin pairing- it’s already pretty great as is

Chychrun is overkill imo
Besides there being no obvious place to slot him in that makes sense, idk that paying 3 defensemen big $$$ moving forward is smart for our Cap

Dahlin doesn’t need a “star” partner, we’re already seeing that
And i don’t think Power does either
I’m not saying we shouldn’t look to improve things,
but maybe all we gotta do is find Power his “Samuelsson”

Heck- Jokiharju & him might even be really good together
We haven’t seen a ton of both of them together healthy though
Hopefully it works out & we won’t have to even worry about it
I still think there’s a good shot it does- time will tell
