Description
The Pens need a good 3rd and 4th line if they want to have any shot at a cup, I think this gives them both by moving people into roles that they can excel in.

O'Reilly helps the penalty kill and gives us a third line that won't get buried like the current one does. A good leader with cup on his resume and maes us a bit bigger and tougher (would stand up to the Trouba's and Wilson's of the world). Barbashev gives that line some scoring punch and can move to center and kill penalties if an injury comes up and O'Reilly has to move into the top 6. Heinen, Carter and Archibald can battle for the 2 RW spots in the bottom 6.

Trade seems relatively fair for rentals. 2nd and prospect for Barbashev. Kapanen, 1st and 3rd for O'Reilly, Dumo evens out salaries and can be flipped if St. Louis wants.

Trade also gives pens more roster flexibility and opens up the logjam at D a little bit.

No chance we get Ror and above all, not for that package. To be sure we don't need him. Legere is having significant problems in the ahl, Kapi doesn't have any value and we shouldn't trade our 1st in this stacked draft class.

Why do we need what will be a mid to late first rounder, when by the time that pick is ready, the pens are gonna be in a rebuild anyway? The prospect can be changed to like Hallander or something, not a huge deal. A 1st, 3rd and relatively young player with some potential seem like an okay package for a rental that is -23 on the year.

Oi vey... the Blues laugh that offer away, and Hallander ain't gonna change that. You have to offer stuff they actually want, not what you want to get rid of.

We have always seen that late-rounders can be also great and we should start now to build up a prospect pool, the rebuild will start in 2-3 seasons. We traded our first picks for far too long. And in the end, the Blues would still decline your package.

there's a balance... i'd argue we shouldn't overpay for any expensive big name additions at the deadline... and empty the cupboard as rutherford often did but hextall has done a good job so far acquiring assets (petry, smith, rakell, carter) without giving up alot (simon, ZAR, clang, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, matheson, marino) --(not 1st round picks or our top prospects like hallander, poulin, blomqvist, puustinen)

i expect hextall to add a piece to the bottom-6, maybe clear out a contract like dumoulin, kapanen, or blueger, maybe shuffle the D but i doubt he'll do very much at all so the big moves i doubt will be involving pittsburgh this time around...

I have exactly the same opinion as you, I think we should mix our bottom six up, guys like Domi or Barba. But don't trade our first rounds or best prospects.
