Want some brutal honesty? Holl has been the Leafs best defenseman so far this season.
Want some more brutal honesty? He's going to get a raise from someone next season.

I've been saying for the longest time that while sure he hasn't been the greatest D in the league he's been a really solid RHD. I've been pretty much the only one in a crowd of hate and I will tell you this. If and when Holl leaves Toronto (other than the locker room loving him I don't know why he would stay) Leafs fans are going to find out just how valuable he's been to this team. If Dubas doesn't pull another magic rabbit out of his arse Holl leaving will be painful. He's done everything we needed to do but fans "didn't like the mistakes he does make" despite the fact that he's consistently been a benefit to this team and not a liability.
He's been a + not a - his entire time with the Leafs each season other than 1 where he only played 11 games. He's played the majority every game as a defensive zone start and he's been a vital part of the PK and that's on a PK that's been damn good nearly the entire time he's been on it. and he's 2M aav playing as a 1st line D and looks like he belongs there.
Get ready Leafs fans because it's going to be 5-6m AAV just to replace him with what we already have and likely that player won't be as good as he's been this year. You wanted it, well thanks to the constant hatred you're going to get it, and you can bet fans of other fanbases on here are going to point that out every time you complain. To those fans, a humble suggestion from a leafs fan, Just say, "You weren't careful what you wished for."
(P.S. if we lose Willy it's going to be for a 5-6m aav Justin Holl that's not named Justin Holl and a forward not half as good as Willy)

Oh great see'er of the future, who do you think the 5-6m aav 5th-6th defenceman will be that replaces Justin Holl?

Someone most won't expect. Even knowing that Dubas has an affinity for his greyhound player nobody has been able to predict his moves. I didn't see the future, I saw the present. Holl was a good player where often he would scramble when players like Dermott would puck chase leaving players that should not be open lots of ice to make their shots.
Sure Holl has made some mistakes that we would hope he doesn't make but when paired with a sensible decent partner he's been incredibly solid and a reliable good D. It's not hard to see that when you aren't concentrating on what you can hate him for next.
