Description
HOW DOES KEN HOLLAND HAVE A JOB. THIS GUY HAS CONSISTENTLY BEEN ONE OF THE WORST GM'S IN THE NHL AND NO ONE IS BATTING AN EYE. LIKE SERIOUSLY, WHAT HAS THIS GUY DONE SINCE BECOMING THE GM OF THE OILERS THAT ENDED UP BEING GOOD!!!! EVANDER KANE WAS A GREAT MOVE, I'LL GIVE HIM THAT, BUT IT WAS COMPLETELY NEGATED BY THE TERRIBLE SIGNING OF BACKUP JACK CAMPBELL. THE CAP SITUATION IS SOMEHOW AWFUL FOR A TEAM THAT HASN'T MADE ANY SIGNIFICANT MOVES FOR A STAR PLAYER. HOW DOES AN NHL GM MANAGE TO MAKE SO MANY INSIGNIFICANT ADDITIONS, YET STILL HAVE A HORRIBLE CAP SITUATION?

JAKOB CHYCHRUN IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS TEAM NEEDS AND KEN REFUSES TO TRADE FOR HIM BECAUSE THE PRICE IS TOO HIGH. DUDE, YOU HAVE TWO OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD ON YOUR TEAM FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS AND YOU'RE AFRAID OF TRADING PROSPECTS?!?!?!!?

Should he even get much credit for Kane, doubt many other teams were gonna touch him with his off ice shenanigans.

It just baffles me someone can be so consistently awful and still have a job. There are obviously some fans that recognize how awful he is, but I have never seen a "fire the GM" or "sell the team" chant like the Canucks get. I guess it's probably because McDavid and Draisaitl have been able to hide the clear flaws of the team Holland has created.

It is very difficult to know if you are like 8 years old and just started watching hockey in which I can't really say anything about your posting ...or you are just a PS5 gamer who doesn't know much about hockey. If that's the case I really wish sites like this would have some hockey test needed to be able to post. Anyways dude...hope you get a hug soon 🤗

Man he inherited such a bad team after Chiarelli. No good prospects, bad cap situation and just mediocre players. I think he's done a pretty decent job to maintain a competitive team while not mortgaging the future, most of which he drafted.

That doesn't really justify the fact that he hasn't really made any significant moves to improve the team. The cap situation is arguably even worse than when he adopted the team, too. I just don't understand his philosophy of developing and holding onto prospects for the purpose of winning for as long as possible rather than going all-in now. He gives me the impression that he is under some belief that he has Mcdavid and Draisaitl under contract for another 8 years and all those years are in their prime. If you look at the top teams in the league, they generally sell their prospects for the purpose of winning now. See Tampa, Colorado, Toronto (hasn't had a 1st in who knows how long), Boston, Pittsburgh... etc.

I think you are giving too much of the blame on Holland. I agree he's been useless but he was left with an awful mess thanks to Chiarelli. And given marching orders to make the team better, there won't be any retool which makes his job impossible. They haven't had a bottom 6 in 4 seasons and their defence hasn't been good since Klefbom played. Campbell was likely a mistake but I bet he turns things around if the Oilers could defend at all.

Holland sucks but it was an impossible job thanks to Chiarelli

Hyman, Nuge's contract, Kane's contract (not the initial arrival, but his re-signing), and I'd argue the signings of both Ceci and Kulak are ranging from good to great value for the team. Beyond that, I like what I've seen from the team's internal development since he took over as well as the qualities he seems to be prioritising in the draft (hard-working skill). The biggest error I can fully ascribe to him is the Kassian contract which created the conditions that would lead to Nurse's 9.25mil extension. With how goalies are, Campbell is still plenty likely to bounce back so I'll refrain from passing conclusive judgement on that until the end of next season.

Overall, he seems to be doing a pretty solid job at identifying and signing competent complementary players. Even if they're not ideal top-4 Dmen, Kulak and Ceci are largely holding their own in the top-4 while earning 6mil combined. For all the **** Barrie gets, he's done exactly what he should have been expected to: be part of a dominant PP and outperform expected goal shares at even strength (49.4% xGF compared to 53.4% GF in EDM).

I'm not saying he's above critique, but I think the level of negative skew to your perspective is unwarranted.
