also we keep the 4th because thats too much.

Lot's of things wrong with this one but what really stands out is 50% retention on Miller's contract just isn't happening.

The program doesn't allow it but it would be 50% retained on only this season to allow them to fit in the Rangers Cap, not the new contract.

It looks a lot worse than it would be if you proposed each trade individually,

1. Horvat @50% Salary and a 3rd for Lafreniere and a 1st
2. JT Miller @50% Salary Retained (this season only) for Schnieder and a 1st
3. Kuzmenko @50% Salary Retained for Hajek & a 1st
4. Schenn and a 4th for Blais and a 2nd.

Standalone I would consider each of those fair for a team trying to take that big step before their Core ages out and they become Minnesota of the mid 2010's, hamstrung by big long contracts.

someone let me know if you can actually retain on a player for just this year if he has term on his deal. I legit didn't think that was doable.

It's not. They made a rule against that a few years ago. You have to retain for the entire contract.
