I think for Carolina this will be an either/or for Drury and Heimosalmi, not both. Pick one and flush the deal out with something like the Philly 3rd. This is a little rich for a dude that is a poor fit for the system when Ryan O'Reilly is a better fit and likely cheaper than this.

Nope this is catering to Canes homers. No motivation here to say yes. Canes need scoring for the PO’s & Bo is that & more. Doesn’t matter what ppl will say but going all in is what should be done. The prospect pool will still be fine.

Canes need scoring for the playoffs yes, but is Horvat really the answer? He has only been in the playoffs twice in his NHL career, and whilst he was effective then, what will his scoring look like in a system he doesn’t fit in and with likely less playing time than what he is getting in Vancouver? ROR is a much better fit in the system, and is a proven playoff performer. He will be exponentially cheaper than Horvat, especially considering the injury he received keeping him out until right before the deadline, and like I said before, a much better fit. The Canes aren’t going to move any assets for a guy that won’t fit the system, so there is no credence to any Horvat to Carolina talk.

Where was ROR when losing 4-2 against Bo in the 2020 playoffs? Outplayed is where.

What will ROR’s scoring look like when already bad? More of the same & adds nothing.

You have no basis on the claim Bo won’t fit the system. He bumps KK into 3C where he belongs. Adding ROR is not an upgrade being older & sliding downhill. A cup run from 4yrs ago is long ago.

It all comes down to cost for a cup run & resigning is for another day.

Horvat is literally a more offensive version of Trocheck, but without Trocheck’s defensive upsides. Trocheck was a good fit because of his defensive abilities. Horvat would be all offense in a defensive system. There is every basis in the world that Horvat doesn’t fit the system the Canes employ.

You bring up the 2020 playoffs where the Canucks beat the Blues. You can’t use that year as a realistic measure of success, considering that the playoffs were expanded with a playin round and also played in a neutral site with no fans. Whilst a team still got crowned that year, it was an unorthodox year in every way possible, and teams were very much affected by it. And are you really sure that Horvat outplayed ROR in those playoffs? Discounting ROR’s defensive achievements and just focusing on pure offensive production, it took Horvat 17 games to get 12 points across 2 rounds when it only took 9 games for ROR to get 11 in the first round. And that is before even counting the defensive comparisons, which only hurts Horvat even further.

I have no doubt that a team will make the mistake of overpaying on Horvat. That team won’t be the Canes.

Horvat wouldn't knock STASTNY out of the 2C spot right now. The Svechnikov - Stastny - Necas line has been one of the best in the league since it was put together, it's currently 6th among lines with 100 minutes in xG% according to MoneyPuck.

Horvat's xGA is larger than any player on the Canes. Claim system. His isolated xGA is worse. He's a bad fit. To play in Rod's system you need defensive knowhow. Haula and Dzingel would have been better fits if it was simple as *ooga booga hot mediocre 2C solves problems*. It's why O'Reilly makes more sense. Even when ROR is cold, he's at least elite defensively. Horvat isn't that. Oh and "Carolina needs scoring for the playoffs". Yeah, they've had 1 game of Max Pacioretty. Lazy take.
