This will be controversial among Kings fans, and I'm not suggesting the Kings would actually consider it, but it would solve a lot of the Kings short-term problems at the expense of their best prospect.

Really leaning into the Nashville West narrative here, lol.

There is a sound logic here though, you have $20M tied up in two 30+ players, so why not open the real competition window now without sacrificing any of your key players? The issue is our window will be cut very short if we cannot find a top-6 center in-house to replace Kopitar.

I'm not so sure they would. Both Nashville guys are reportedly available for the right price, and no one else is going to give up anything near Byfield's caliber.

Don't disagree, but you have to deal with the problems you have now. That's a problem for a later time.

You're asking Poile to retain for 3.5 seasons, cant see him doing that.

Also asking them to trade their starting goalie who's a top 5-10 goaltender, wait till the 2024 draft for a 1st and take Peterson off your hands.

Byfield is having a slow start to his career so there's that to consider as well.

Add that all up and I'm fairly certain Nashville would decline but maybe not, gotta get some Preds fans to weigh in.

Mike McKenna suggested on his blog that Saros could potentially be available.

Byfield just turned 20 years old. I'm not sure what you're expecting from him. He was acknowledged to be a prospect when he was drafted, and the Kings have said numerous times that they plan to take their time to develop their youngsters "the right way." They could have thrown him in the deep end like Ottawa did with Stutzle, and I'm sure his individual numbers would have skyrocketed, but it would have been at the cost of team success and the Kings would be in the league basement instead of challenging Vegas for the Pacific Division lead.

Nashville is being compensated well for their retention, and they're getting a top quality haul in Byfield, a quality young RHD of their choice, and draft picks. Admittedly Grundstrom is a throw-in for salary purposes, but Walker has been very good since returning from injury. He's not just a casual throw-in. I think Nashville does quite well here. Of course it all depends on whether Saros offers are actually being listened to.

I’d never take anything Mckenna says seriously to be honest. Or any “insider” for that matter. Saros will be our #1 until Askarov is ready to fill the role. You can’t find Elite goalies like saros as often as you’d like + poile isn’t known to trade our starters.
