The only box it doesn't check is helping out their cap situation, but honestly I don't think a mid season deal where most of the league is cap crunched is a realistic time to fix that anyways.

That's ok, it's my best guess and you're not the GM :P.

Not really relevant, but Garland is honestly such a Predators/Bruins style player. Been wildly misused this year, cast into a 3rd line defensive role, but if a team played him as a gritty hard-working 2nd line winger and he'd pot 50-60 points while annoying the hell out of teams.

Not for rentals, more so for guys that fit their window.

Their whole core is getting on their last few attempts. Saros: 27
Josi, McDonagh, Ekholm: 32 33 32
Forsberg Granlund Niederreiter Duchene: 28 30 30 32

If Nashville plans to compete with these guys as their core, it's going to have to happen over the next 2-3 seasons.

In my opinion, Horvat and Garland both fit the window and play a very Nashville style of game at their best. Would fit in seamlessly there.

Garland is the very opposite of what the Preds are. Hynes runs a very defensive and physical scheme. That's why we see guys like Smith, Trenin, Jeannot, Borowiecki, etc. getting more chances over our younger players. A 5'10 scoring winger at 5m does not help us in the slightest.

You took Ryjo back so we could put that 8m towards Horvat, but then gave us 5m in Garland, making it much harder to Keep Horvat.
Even then, Nashville isn't even in a wildcard. We're more likely to be sellers this TDL.

I'm not, but I've been a fan of the Preds my whole life, and Poile is never one to make huge TDL splashes for rentals we can't afford to keep.

We pass.

It was more of a rhetorical question but thank you for clarifying.

If you think Garland is describable as a "scoring winger", I fear you've got the wrong idea of him. Like I said, he's a gritty, super hard working winger. He's like a scrappy mutt, who just battles for every inch of ice. Pure tenacity. Describing Garland as a short, scoring winger is definitely not what I'd do. He's much more like a Marchand-light style.

Also, if the cap rises 4 mil as expected, it would leave you with about 12 mil for Jeannot, Glass, Fabbro, a backup and a couple 750k extras. That honestly sounds easily doable to me, am i wrong? That's why I suggested it, I thought the cap works out.

Gritty, but never made more than 50 hits in his career?
That's what I'm trying to say. Hynes and Poile like their physical guys. He wouldn't mesh. If you think he's getting 3rd line defensive minutes now, you'd hate to see what Hynes would do to him.

Okay, lets say for some chance it works out.
Horvat would be taking slots away from our young players, who should be making their way onto the team around when Ryjo's contract nears its expiration date.
Centers like L'Hereaux, Svechkov, Afanaseyev
On the wing we have Kemell, Evangelista

I hate this god awful rumour that spread just because Poile checked in on Horvat. He was most likely trying to get a feel of the market. He doesn't make massive TDL deals.

Ahhh I see. Youre saying you think Nashville won't go for it with their current core! When RyJo expires, Duchene would be 35, Josi 35, McD 36, Ekholm 35. You guys would be at the end of their careers basically and be starting from scratch with those young guys you mentioned.

If that's the route they go, then yeah, Horvat and Garland don't make sense. A trade only makes sense if Poile wanted to attempt to be competitive with the current core that likely has 2 or 3 years left.

Well, yeah, kinda.

We aren't going to be expensive buyers, because we aren't in a good enough position to be.
If somehow, someway we ARE buyers, we'll probably be light buyers

I agree NSH aren't in a good enough position for rentals. I more so figured Horvat and Garland would be a fit for the 2-3 year window the current core has.

It would probably amount to Poile's final shot at some cup runs before retiring. Him being 72 also played a role in why I thought they might push for it in the next couple years. Doubt he'll be around to see the next core, post Josi and Duchene, come to fruition.

Your best guess started with selecting the wrong team to send Horvat to. NSH is not going to purchase a rental this season, send him somewhere where it makes sense.

Carolina. They can send back Kotkaniemi. 3rd liners making too much, with lots of term are irresistible to VAN.

Poile doesn't need to be around to see this core play out. It's time for fresh perspective, but the ownership group is hands off. Waiving Tolvanen ahead of Smith, McCarron, or Jankowski with a bottom 10 team in scoring should be the final nail in the coffin of a declining team, but it won't be. The whole thing needs to be reset so it's not a constant struggle for WC2.
