NASCAR VAN Three way does it work

Created by: ecupirate07
Team: 2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 27, 2023
Published: Jan. 27, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
To Van:
Carolina’s 1st
Cody Glass
Fabbro

Nashville
Horvat (retained or not)
Schenn

Carolina
Nashville’s 2nd
Johansen 25% retained

To balance value, Vancouver doing the 2 million retain on RJ was suggested. I can’t do that on the site.

Vancouver gets a RHD and RH Center plus a first
Carolina gets a budget 2C and loses 20 spots for making it work long term for Nashville
Nashville gets a 2c that can help turn their fortunes around a depth RHD to replace Fabbro short term

I don’t expect Vancouver to like it but i don’t see teams giving up any better of a value. Glass is starting to show his potential.

Nashville signs Horvat to a lot term deal (in case that wasn’t understood)

If Van got another decent prospect back (not Scott Morrow but someone with legit potential) I think it would look fair

Gonna be tough to make this happen since NSH has absolutely no interest in making this deal.

They may not. But they have been mediocre for a while and Johansen has been disappointing. They could use a jolt and roster upgrade. Is there a team out there that pays anything for Johansen with an 8 mil cap hit? I

You don't expect VAN to like it? VAN does fine here, it's NSH that's getting shafted. Even without the retention on Johansen, it's an easy pass for the Preds.

Johansen doesn’t have much value. But the Canes like to find little value and make more. Does Vancouver take Glass, Fabbro and a 2nd for Horvat and Schenn?
How does Nashville make that work long term with johansen on the team? Is there a team who even takes Johansen for free at 8 million per?

Maybe we are the ones retaining on Johansen as well. I do think Van makes out the best here. Other option would be swap schenn for Bear. Depends what kind of D Nashville would want. Or could add Hoglander then would probably need Carolina to add an decent prospect. (Like maybe Rees/Forsmark)

Vancouver doing the retain on johansen could work too. Hard to do that on this site though

True it make sense. Even if we luck into Bedard we aren't going to be competing for a few years. So retaining on guys shouldn't be an issue

You're making two assumptions here about NSH, that I would disagree with.

The first is that they should add Horvat. I've got no interest in Horvat for NSH. They're not currently in a place where it makes sense to give up anything of value for him before the deadline as a rental, and I definitely don't want to re-sign him (and with the retention on Johansen here, NSH can't afford it anyway). Assuming he wants at least something like the 8x8 Johansen contract (I'd be surprised if his agent isn't looking for $9M or more per season, given Horvat's production this season), whoever signs him until he's 36 for that is going to have buyer's remorse. Even in the summer, when NSH wouldn't have to give up any assets to sign him, I still wouldn't want the Preds to consider it.

The second is that they should pay to get rid of Johansen. Yes, he's overpaid by about $2M a season, but with only two more years left on his contract after this one it's manageable. It's not like Johansen can't play anymore, and he needs to be healthy scratched or buried in Milwaukee. He's still a good 1B/2A center. For what it would cost to pay someone who'd replace Johansen in the lineup, plus retaining on RJ and/or giving up assets to move him, it's a net loss for NSH.

I really don't want to see Glass get traded either. He's finally getting put in a position to succeed, and it's working. He could easily be the piece that turns this proposal into a lopsided Forsberg for Erat type win for VAN, in just a couple years.

This was excellently expressed. Bravo.

Cool idea but I don’t think Canes want to be stuck with RoJo for 3 more years even with a bit of retention.
