It probably takes more to pry Mittelstadt from Buffalo considering that he's progressed some this season, but I think that he's an interesting case study.

I just think that Boeser greatly fits the Canes MO. Take a player that's not performing up to their capable standards for a perceived-to-be high price tag and make a calculated bet that his talent shines better on an elite team.

Totally agree. He’s the kind of guy you want to bet on. Character guy. I think a lot of his perceived struggles are a part of being on the dysfunctional Canucks.

Boeser's also dealt with a career's worth of personal issues separate from his injuries involving his father over the years. The effects of that on his mind are definitely lingering as well. Moving on from that is no simple thing and can take years, and from there he could take off.

You can have Mitts for a first but I think Buffalo would rather shore up their D depth or bring in a massive addition to the forward group (Meier-esque)

I'm hypothesizing about distressed asset acquisitions. Not dumpster diving, per se, but the kinds of young players that sometime fall out of favor with a specific organization. You and I both know that Carolina loves diving into that pile time and time again.

We love distressed assets but hopefully that is an off-season thing for our distressed instead of good trade assets. We have 4 centers ahead of Mittlestadt with Drury likely on par or better. If we are looking for a distressed asset maybe a Jokiharju would make sense if Coghlan was a piece in a trade.

Mittelstadt and Drury are different players. Mittelstadt has considerably more offensive skill while Drury is primarily a defensive center. I think that having a young center that has enough creativity to hang with other offensive players isn't a bad idea. Mittelstadt could potentially be our Sam Bennett-type of player.

Knowing Mittlestadt doesn’t fit our model (no defense) and he is falling out of age to hit anything close to Reinhart, i don’t think a 1st is a good play. We have one reclamation project, don’t need 2.
