Making Changes

Created by: brgh4life
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2023
Published: Jan. 31, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Garland is an ideal winger in Sully's system. Fast, relentless player. His contract isn't ideal, but he can easily jump into the top 6 if an injury happens and the Pens don't really have that right now. Vancouver gets a forward in Kapanen who Rutherford and Allvin both like and fits the age range they talked about in the press conf. Teddy is another guy they are familiar with who could use a change this season.

Bones is having a good season and doesn't fit with San Jose long term so a 3rd for him with retention should be good enough.

  1. Bonino, Nick ($1,025,000 retained)

  1. 2023 3rd round pick (NJD)

    Future Considerations
    ANA
    1. McGinn, Brock
    Additional Details:
Hoping a young team like Anaheim would take on McGinn. Good bottom 6 guy, physical, team leader, but signed to a dumb contract the Pens can't afford to have on their 4th line.

I want McGinn and his bloated contract gone. Too much money tied up into an average 4th liner.

Hes not average. He was scoring almost every night until he got held back by Carter and Blueger. I'd much rather have McGinn for this year than Heinen

He had a 20% shooting percentage of course that wasn't going to keep up. He hasn't recorded a single point since December 22nd. He's also spent the vast majority of the season with Carter so I don't get how Carter is just suddenly holding him back.

Oh no Carter has been awful. I wish he could be the one going, but it's not like Brock and Carter just started playing together after christmas. They have played together most of the season.

As mentioned - when McGinn was "scoring almost every night" he was already on line's with Carter and Blueger. So that point doesn't really hold weight. He was shooting at an unsustainable rate. What we are seeing now is the actual McGinn - what he did earlier in the season was the exception.

He's definitely average. He may be marginally better than Heinen - but dumping McGinn's contract would outweigh that
