Meier likely doesn't sign the 2 year deal.

SJ wants more if they're retaining $10 million.

I understand the interest in excluding Knies, but probably not realistic to not include at least 1 legit prospect (Robertson is now an NHLer in my mind, for better or worse)

Oh dear God, another Joey Anderson trade.....

I could see OTT 3rd being of interest, but what does Joey Anderson add to that offer?

As for Meier, SJS would take that (even though Kerfoot offers them nothing as an ecpiring UFA and Robertsons value is at a low point) but with 3 mil retnetion this year and 5mil retention for the next 2 years, thats worth about a 1st and 3rd by itself, so its Meier for low picks in the round 1st and 3rd?

People will never agree on value but I think the Sharks would increase the return exponentially if they were able to sign Meier for an extra year or two and then retain.

I'd do it. Anderson is just depth and contract filler space. The 3rd and the cap space are the value.

Anderson has 2 less goals than Puljujarvi in 40 less games. Edmonton is obviously going to make a deadline deal so having Anderson for 750K helps their depth and clears cap.

As for the Meier deal I think it's close. Horvat was just dealt with retention for a protected 1st, borderline cap dump, and a prospect. 2 1sts, a 2nd, 3rd, Robertson, and potential to retain and flip Kerfoot to a contender for another 2nd/3rd for 1.5 seasons of Meier seems like tidy work. Especially when that cap space is of no use to SJ next season anyways.

I think they might make the deal for the OTT 3rd, I think every team in the league has 2-3 Joey Andersons (good AHler, below average NHLer).

I just dont think anyone would really see him as value in trade. Hes gotten 5 seasons of momentary glances in the NHL and not really shown anything. Even the leafs have called up 6 other guys over him this year. Hes the new Jeremy Bracco, where some leaf fans see him as an added value in trade. Its this kind of insistence that Anderson or Hollowell are still valuable prospects, when its quite apparent that they are just good NHLers, and have less/same chance of being of an NHLer on this new team. Even throwing in a guy like Ovichnikov, who probably never comes back to NAmerica, is more of interest.

As far as why EDM take that deal, they take it to free up 3mil for a guy who cant hit the side of the barn, its addition by subtraction and the 3rd and a real prospect, even a midlevel one probably gets that done.
