Not Duchene. Not Eberle.

Created by: Hawkisles
Team: 2017-18 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2017
Published: Jun. 9, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Why not Duchene:
- 2 years left ok a UFA contract, and in my opinion, a low chance of re signing
- Horrible production last season. Sure, he playing for the Avalanche, and that might have hurt his production, but maybe he was part of the problem? Why take that risk?
- We can get better players for the same high price. Sakic wants way too much for Duchene.
- Our team may not be stacked at Center now, but Barzal is set to change that very soon. Why lose four good assets for a C2 when we'll have a great C2 ready in a couple of years?

- Why not Eberle:
- Horrible postseason production. Say what you will about our current roster, but they come up in the clutch in the playoffs. If we want JT to stay, we need to win in the playoffs, and Eberle would actively hurt that.
- He has a 3 year long contract at 6m a year, which could potentially take up cap space better used on Barzal's or Ho-Sang's next contract. I can't imagine EDM retaining cap.

Why Wheeler:
- Better production for less cap space and roughly the same price as Duchene.
- Established, high scoring right wing. Can hit well too, so between him and Lee flanking Tavares, our franchise will have much more clear ice to work with, and will likely be too well protected to get cheap shotted into an injury.
- Produces well despite a bad roster, where both Eberle and Duchene tend to dip significantly in production when their teams struggle.

I just hate the idea of trading Beau, that's a very rich trade for Fowler. I think he could be had for less, other than that I don't mind. I'm not convinced Quine is a 3C

why do you assume duchene has a low chance of resigning the guy has expressed that all he wants to do is win? also a legit #2 center is needed now not 2 or 3 years from now when barzal is ready, he could be eased into the role and when the time comes if duchene is still on the team he can move up and play with anders and JT he has played and produced at wing before in his career...as for eberle one postseason and you're ready to say he'll never perform in the playoffs? he has performed well in big games playing for canada before. and how can you say this team comes up clutch in the playoffs? they have won 1 playoff series...also eberle has 2 years left not 3

Don't worry about playoff production before making it, and Eberle definitely helps you make it.

P.S. Plenty of good players have a terrible 1st playoffs i.e. Datsyuk,

No chance on either deal.

Wheeler deal is well short and Winnipeg has 3 RHD (Byfuglien, Myers, Trouba) why do they need Hamonic?
