Draft bust blockbuster
Dylan Strome production in juniors and at the WJC blows Pierre-Luc Dubois' out of the water.
PLD will be a Benoit Pouliot type player where as I see Strome developing similar to Kyle Turris

Opening Night Lineup
Pierre-Luc Dubois returned to juniors? Just about every mock Columbus line-up had PLD in Columbus' top 6 but I agree with you he should not make the 23 man roster. His numbers last year do not scream NHL ready and the AHL is not an option

starting lineup
Pierre-Luc Dubois was barely above a point per game in the QMJHL last year. The QMJHL has been long thought to be the worst of the three CHL league and thus the easiest major junior league to score in for top prospects.
Is he really projecting as a NHL 1st liner? Is it not more likely he is returned to juniors this year?

Is there a reason you covet our 1st round picks so badly but are fine with moving Ho-Sang who already looks like a good NHL forward.
1st round picks outside the top 10 (i.e. picks 11-30) historically have about a 50-55% chance of even playing 200 total NHL games

At least one of Ho Sang, Barzal, Beauvillier and/or Bellows will surpass Duchene in 2 years. If we could just secure our arena situation, JT will stay. If Tavares thinks we're two or three blockbuster trades away from being good, he'd have left already. The hangup here has to be organizational.</div></div>
Bellows???? 14 points in 34 NCAA games Bellows? I have my doubt Bellows makes it to the NHL and I am confident saying there is no chance Bellows is half the player Duchene is

I think this would be a smart play for both teams. Van gets the better futures, and the Isles upgrade their current D dramatically. Actually I think that overall the Isles would be making out like bandits on the three trades; basically it would be swapping out
Strome < Eberle
Hamonic < Tanev
Barzal < 1st, 2nd, 4th round picks
They'll have added three picks and upgraded their RW and D.</div></div>
Barzal is worth way more than a 1st, 2nd and 4th especially when you consider the 1st will be 17th or later

He is talking about the rule that teams are only allowed to retain salary on 3 total contracts in a season. If Vancouver is already retaining on 2 contract + 2 Sedins = 4

Why are you trading Soderstrom if you don't know much about him?
Why do we need Martin back? We already have a roster full of bottom 6 forwards +Nelson, Lee, and JT.
Colorado will want more than Ho-Sang and a 2nd. Wotherspoon is okay I guess and adding Kulemin as a cap dump makes it not even close

Does it make sense to trade Tavares to Toronto and offer sheet Draisaitl?
As yamahut mentioned compensation is four 1st round picks for Draisaitl because compensation is calculate as total contract divided by 5 years (or less years if the deal is under 5 years).
Toronto is not giving up either of Kadri or Nylander for JT so both is ridiculous

His value is not in shot blocking, its in puck moving and skating. Shot blocking is a nice extra

They have through summer 2018 to sign. We'll see, I wouldn't completely rule out the Varlamov connection as discussed. But even AFTER the news broke about his CSKA extension the Avs were rumored to want him.</div></div>
<strong>Wrong</strong> they retain his rights until he is 27 years old similar to how Kirril Petrov was Islanders property forever

Does anyone know if Vegas needs to get to the cap floor for their first season, or are they exempt for 1 year? I wasn't sure about that. If the need to reach the floor, then your deal with Vegas definitely makes some sense, but that's a heck of a lot of money to take on for the additional prize of a mid-level prospect. Finally, your numbers are a bit off for some of your free agents, most notable Kovalchu and Alzner, which would still cause problems for your team's cap.</div></div>
Um what Dubois had an incredibly underwhelming year in the Q and is looking like a bust

Nugent-Hopkins (for less)

I think dumber would be exposing de Haan. If the above happened the protect list should be Tavares, Ladd, Duchene, Lee, Leddy, Boychuk, de Haan, and Pulock. Let Vegas choose between Strome, Nelson, and Hickey because they can only take one
