I would be happy with this team

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is hoping the salary cap ceiling rises to 76 million instead of staying flat. I also projected Vegas taking Raanta, but could easily see them taking Lindberg or Grabner. I don't see Fast as an option for them anymore that he will be out for the start of next season. The Rangers could also give Vegas a pick in exchange for taking a guy like Holden, which I plan on making another lineup for that possibility. I traded Girardi and used a buy out on Staal. Buying out Girardi and trading Staal would be much better imo, but with Staal's no movement clause I honestly don't see him as being movable. Girardi's NMC changes to a modified one on July 1st so he'll have to at least list 15 teams he'll accept a trade to. I don't know if Dallas would be on his list but I think trading him to some team is more than doable: he actually looked decent in the playoffs. In a perfect world I wouldn't mind having him on the third line for less money, but its just impossible. These moves leave the Rangers with a tiny bit of cap space... The only thing that worries me is having two rookies on the third pair, but I think they could make a trade for a 5th or 6th defenseman down the line if needed. Let me know what you think!

Additional Details:
I don't know if you have to give up a fourth for Vegas to take Holden. I don't know what he's worth. His contract isnt that bad, but I don't know how much teams value him if at all after this last postseason run. i'd trade him for a bag of pucks just to open up a spot for someone else though.
3.
NYR
  1. Lehtonen, Kari ($700,000 retained)
DAL
  1. Girardi, Dan
  2. 2018 3rd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
I think this trade could work on the basis that the Rangers will need a backup if Raanta is taken and the Stars are desperate to shed one of their terrible goalie contracts. The Stars actually take on 300k of salary in this trade and they'd have Girardi for a few more years unless they bought him out, but they need to get rid of a goalie contract now that Bishop is signed and adding a veteran defenseman could help them. As Girardi is signed past next season though, unlike Lehtonen, the Rangers would probably have to include draft picks or prospects to make it worth it for the Stars. I don't know if a 3rd would be enough or if Lehtonen would waive his NMC, but hopefully it would work I personally would give a higher pick if needed to make it work... let me know what you think

NYR
  1. 2018 7th round pick (VGK)
VGK
  1. Klein, Kevin
  2. 2018 4th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Like the Holden trade I don't know if this is enough to have them take Klein, but he is only on the books for one more year and his cap isnt huge so I think he is very tradeable.

Doesn't Girardi has a NMC? Dallas would rather have Lehtonen for one year than Girardi for three years. Two more roster spots to be filled with no cap.

Oh right I forgot about the extra spots. I edited and fixed that. And Girardi's NMC changes to a modified on July 1st i believe so he'd have to list 15 teams that he'd accept a trade to. I don't know if Dallas takes that trade for the reason you stated, but I would give up a better pick if needed to try to make it work. Maybe even a first

Dallas has Lehtonen,Niemi and Bishop. They're going to protect Bishop and Niemi and Lehtonen will be exposed. Neither will be taken, so if they can trade one of them, it works out well for them. They also have a young D, so DG can help in that regard. If the cap does not rise that much or not at all, NYR can maybe retain $1-1.5 on DG and buyout Lehtonen or Niemi and just sign a cheap goalie like Kuemper for a year at $800K until Shestyerkin comes up.

They'd probably prefer to buyout both of them over trading for Girardi. Way cheaper for them

Yeah I think it's a trade that actually works out relatively well for both teams which is surprising considering both contracts are pretty terrible. I personally think Girardi can still be effective on a third line, so I think Dallas would benefit from that. Rangers would definitely need to sweeten the deal with a pick though. I don't know if a 3rd would be enough. I don't think they could retain any salary on Girardi, at least not in this scenario, but you're right that the Rangers could just buyout Girardi or Lehtonen and sign a cheap backup if needed

Definitely a possibility, but they may find it better to trade one of them for a defenseman like Girardi if they think he can still play instead of having that much dead cap from two boughtout goalies. Plus any pick they'd be getting from the Rangers may entice them
