Barbashev could be an underrated pick-up for a team like Toronto, where his all-around play could earn him a spot almost anywhere in that lineup, from beside Tavares on the 2nd line, to a more natural 3rd line spot. Either way, I'd like this player on Toronto for that, and his cup experience.

This could be a secondary move, but the Leafs need to aim higher. Jarnkrok has done a serviceable job on the 2nd line wing, but the Leafs need an upgrade for the playoffs

You're right, I was picturing this probably as a secondary move for added scoring depth and some physicality. But on the other hand, Toronto's cap situation is becoming very difficult and I don't see them paying for a player that would demand significant salary. Maybe the Blues do a sign and trade in this situation so Toronto is comfortable planning around it. Maybe Toronto goes all in or maybe they do nothing.

With the right retention, and moving out a little salary (one or more of Kerfoot, Engvall, Holl) to a rebuilding team that could retain on them and flip for assets, they can do a lot if they're creative. Kerfoot can be replaced by a callup as hes been relegated to 4th line duty, they just extended Holl's replacement (Timmins) yesterday, and Engvall just doesnt fit anymore
