I would be happy with this deadline, but I don't see adams handing out big money to a new addition with his "players who want to be here" and stated philosophy

Mittelstadt and Östlund don't excite that much and I'm wondering what else BUF could throw in... Maybe Rosen as well? I think Grier is asking for a bigger main piece, like Kulich or Savoie. JJP, Quinn, Samuelsson, Levi? I understand there a are many BUF untouchables, but Meier needs at least one premium piece. It is true BUF's 1st will probably not be as high so that can be factored in

I would think Buffalo trys to avoid Kulich or Savoie, Rosen they could maybe switch with Ostlund or they can add another prospect like a Kisakov or a Wiessbach or somthing else lol. Not Sure

I think it'll take more to wedge Grier off resigning Meier. Have seen Holtz from NJ. Morrow or Drury from CAR. Not saying BUF makes these guys available because they may not have that kind of interest in Meier.

Also why does BUF even trade for Meier when outside a playoff spot. They can probably just maintain the same course and not trade their great prospects for Meier. They're not about to contend.
I think if Meier goes he'll be going to NJ or CAR

Buffalo is 3 points out of a playoff spot with 5 games at hand. Their schedule is the second toughest in the league for the remainder of the season, this isn't the same old Sabres though. At the very least, it's premature to say they won't be in the playoffs. Nobody is paying this kind of premium package for meier as a rental (he could take a 10 million qo for next year and walk into ufa), Grier has indicated that if a solid offer is on the table, he will give permission for the acquiring team to discuss an extension with meiers agent.

ah didn't see the 5 games in hand, that's big.

SJ isn't going to let Meier go at a UFA value when they can and want to resign him. The values I'm considering are ones with extensions because that situation maximizes SJ's return. BUF and NJ have the space to do an extension around $9m and that's the reported starting ask, not 10m

I'm sorry, I didn't explain very well. My understanding is that he could elect to accept his qo (qualifying offer), which means he would make 10 million for one year, which would be his last year as an rfa, making him a ufa. So it would be vital that any team moving a ton for him- know that they can extend him. I didn't mean that his extension would be 10 million per year. The qualifying offer thing is something for rfas in their last year of team control. I don't remember all the rules, but I don't think you would wanna pay a crazy amount if it meant you only had him for this year and next.
