Realistic and conservative offseason

Created by: Billy12Bob
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 11, 2023
Published: Feb. 11, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vrána will be back up with the Wings after the '23 TDL, he now has 9 points in the last 8 games in GR. What happens next depends on how he does the rest of the year.

Perron may be traded before the 23-24 season starts if the return is right.

Elmer Söderblom may start in GR if something falls in our lap, like a good player on waivers.

We still need an upgrade on C but there's nothing in FA that's obviously available. We'll see what happens.

Niels Jensen is likely to be available in FA, if he isn't then there are several others that will do the job. 3RD is our weakest spot and there's where the addition should be made.

Nitpicking, but Yzerman likes to sign young players to short term contracts so they are still RFA’s. I am talking about Veleno here.

Joe should still be a RFA after that contract. He's on his third year of contract now and will be 26 when this one ends and still a restricted free agent.

Good to hear. I was wrong then. Only if Holland would have used the same method and Larkin would have been an RFA last summer. Now he is a UFA instead frown

Larkin would still have become UFA in 2022 so Holland bought one year of his UFA-years. In order to have kept him an RFA the contract would have to have ended in '21. With the cap situation we had when Holland signed that contract I don't think he could have made it two years shorter and still kept the team under the cap. He had pretty much painted himself into a corner with his expensive contracts.

So another just run it all back and hope it's better. Do you really wanna watch Suter and hellberg for another season, don't we know that's not going to work already. I like the Edmonton trade though.

Yes I do want to watch Suter and Hellberg another season.

We don't have anything better than Suter at centre and as of now there are no free agents at that position. What may or may not become available is unknown at this time and I'm not going to get rid of servicable players until I have something better to replace them with. Neither Veleno nor Rasmussen are going to become 1C/2C in the NHL and Suter is better than both of them right now.

I did trade for Borgault who is a right shooting centre and I signed both Liam Dower Nilsson and Theodor Niederbach and with Marco Kasper coming over there now are four new centres in Grand Rapids. Rome wasn't built in a day.

There is no better goalie than Hellberg available and he has outperformed Nedeljkovic in both Detroit and in Grand Rapids. Cossa is nowhere near ready for the NHL and we need two goalies that have experience.

This team will outperform the current one for no other reason that Raymond, Seider, Berggren, Söderblom, Rasmussen, Veleno all are one year older and one year better. Our weakest spot 3RD was fixed with a player that is very solid and plays a style that fits with how our head coach wants to play.

If, and that's a big if, there should become available a really good centre in FA this summer there's nothing stopping Yzerman from signing him. If that should happen then Söderblom can easily spend a few months in GR until a trade can be swung.

Veleno and Ras are a year better but you still put them behind Suter who both have already eclipsed on the depth chart right now. A backup who isn't an nhl goalie atleast go get a vet like Talbot or Hill who we atleast know is an nhl goalie. Sure the young guys will be better and hopefully that means wins but repeating the same thing that doesn't already work is just foolish. Pick a lane, sell and take a step back or try to step forward but just bad and standing in place just accomplishs nothing.

Husso have a save percentage of 90.2 this season. Hellberg have a save percentage of 90.1 this season. Husso have a GAA of 2.97 this season. Hellberg have a GAA of 2.63 this season. You're talking out of your arse.

Veleno is useless as a centre he couldn't win a faceoff if his life depended on it, he's more than 10 percentage points behind Suter. Rasmussen have played all of his best games as a LW. Suter is the third best centre on the team.

I reject your opinions as nothing but fantasy.

So the guy who's a better lw than center you put at center and a goalie that's played sheltered opponents .896 save % in 8 starts in Detroit is better than the guy we throw to the wolves every night. Who's talking fantasy
