Good offer but I don’t see ottawa giving up assets at the deadline for a goalie they don’t really need. Maybe go for him in the offseason

-The rumoured cost to dump Zaitsev is a 2nd. I find this low, but those are the rumours.
-The Coyotes need to put the exclamation on their tank, and Vejmelka is arguably costing them a guaranteed top 3 pick, and the best odds at one of Bedard of Fantelli.
-Formenton without the allegations is worth a very high amount. One of the fastest players in the league. No arbitration rights. Already scored 20 goals. With the allegations, he has no practical value. Sens cannot keep him, even if he is cleared of any wrong doing. The Coyotes are the one team who could probably sign him next season and fly under the radar, since they are a non-traditional market with less local interest than a Canadian or major market team.
-Sens need a #2 goalie to replace Talbot next year. They now need a goalie to carry them to the end of the season so that they aren't forced to rush Sogaard.

They need another goalie next year who can form a 1A/1B tandem with Forsberg.

I suspect prior to Forsberg's injury, their plan was to trade Talbot for a pick, and get Sogaard into the safest possible games in order to see what they have without risking hurting his development. Likely with the idea of deciding whether Sogaard is ready to play 30 games next year in the NHL, or whether he should go back to the AHL for further development. He will be waiver exempt.

The situation they face now is that both Forsberg and Talbot are hurt, which will force them to play Sogaard. That is what expedites the acquisition of a number 2 goalie for next year. We also don't know what kind of injury Forsberg had yet, but it looked pretty brutal. They might want another veteran in as an insurance policy in case Forsberg does not return to his current form right away next training camp.
