Vegas gets into a bidding war and ends up paying a hefty price to replace Mark Stone for the time being.

Uhh, sure, I guess. But if it's a bidding war at this level, there's a good chance they still like a different offer better. Of course, I don't see the bidding war actually going to this height.

Not sure it'll take much more than a protected 1st to get O'Reilly. ROR's performance this year is not looking very good.

It is a down year for O'Reilly (and the Blues) but he gets the toughest minutes in the NHL. Teams won't be renting him for his offensive prowess but rather his two way play, playoff pedigree and leadership. He'll be your #3 center (maybe #2) and will play against top lines during the playoffs. He'll take key faceoffs and play valuable PK minutes. Teams will depend on him to rally the troops between games, periods and shifts. Not to mention, financially, he'll cost less than 1 mil in actual payout.

Should easily be worth a 1st + mid tier prospect (I like Jakub Demek) but teams will wait until deadline to offer given risk of injury. I would think 2022 Copp and Giroux trades are good examples.

IMO he's much more valuable than Tarasenko. 1. He doesn't have a NTC which opens the market up. 2. He's a stanley cup winning captain. 3. Versatile defensive center.
Even with only a couple teams to trade with, Tarasenko fetched a first+.

I figured the starting point was either a first or a second and prospect (Cormier). Bidding war elevated that to adding a prospect or upgrading to a first.
