i've thought so too for a long time but i can't see them adding him now and his $3m cap hit. more likely we circle back in the summer if we can get him sub-2.5m

When the talk of Puljujarvi going on waivers came out, I actually thought of this as well. Back in camp, there was talk of Simmonds to the Oilers, when it looked like he wouldn't be with the Leafs. But since then we've had injuries allowing us to keep him around, though not playing much.

There would need to be more money going back. 2 players on Toronto that could move are Engvall (2.25m) and kerfoot (3.5m).

Agreed he would be a good fit if not for the money

If JP passes through waivers, then maybe there would be a path to a trade since a team could be brought in closer to the TDL to retain on him.

if a third party was gonna retain on him he wouldn't need to go through waivers though right? not like anyone wants pulju assigned to the ahl anyway

No, but I don't think a 3rd party would want to retain now, and the Oilers need to make a move to active Yamamoto. Not sure how much money they need to make that happen, but right now it seems like they need to waive 2 players, one of them is Shore who cleared and the other is likely JP (they could do Jankmark or Ryan instead). So, I was just saying if he clears then they can wait for someone to announce that they are willing to retain salary. Right now, the only teams I could see doing it is Buffalo, Ottawa (idk if they want to help the Leafs) and Vegas if they get their trade deadline business done early (but they might not want to help the Oilers). Most of the other teams with cap space, have their own guys that they may need to retain on or are still in contention and looking to make additions.

Him clearing though would be a bonus though, and other teams will likely be interested in him, since he will be waiver exempt for a while.

I don 't see how PJ helps the Leafs at all. Who does he replace in at wing? At least Simmons provides something different for the team...even if Simmons player limited minutes.

Not only the Leafs, but the oilers want to free up space to make moves. Realistically poolparty probably goes in a move for a dman (like ghost) closer to the deadline. This is the issue with the current state of the league when it comes to the salary cap
