As I understand it, the Leafs are looking for a defence-first LHD to play in their top 4 and I believe they’re shopping in the $4 million AAV salary range.
I picked Knies as the return for Dillon because he’s a Leafs’ prospect I remembered hearing about, but there’s likely another prospect or draft pick that would be fine if the Leafs are unwilling to move Knies in that deal.
Basically, I don’t think the Jets’ defencemen as a group fit all that well together and my moves are meant to reallocate cap space in order to better optimize the roster.
Dillon is too good imo to be considered strictly a salary dump, but I think he’d probably be a better fit on the Leafs or some other team looking for a reliable middle pair LHD that would be a fixture on their PK because the Jets don’t seem to have a RHD that is ideally suited to pair up with him.
If Heinola was a RHD, I think that might have worked, so that’s why the trade for RHD Schenn as he’s pretty much a RH version of Dillon, just older and cheaper and better suited to a 3rd pair mentorship role with Heinola.
